After a brief unexplained hiatus, Nullriver’s NetShare is once again available in Apple’s App Store.
NetShare users can share their iPhone’s EDGE or 3G Internet connection with their computer. NetShare provided a SOCKS5 proxy to which your computer can connect.
Mac configuration instructions are included. Windows configuration instructions are forthcoming via Nullriver’s website and are planned to be included in the next update.
Get Nullriver’s NetShare for Apple iPhone via Apple’s U.S. App Store for US$9.99 here.
(All other countries, simply search for “NetShare” in iTunes Store.)
For illustrated instructions, see AppleInsider’s “Ten step guide to sharing your iPhone’s connection with NetShare” here.
MacDailyNews Note: To our MacBook Pros’ Verizon EVDO ExpressCard modems and their attendant $60/mo. fees: See ya!
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Aldarion” for the heads up.]
works great! what a cool app.
suck on this, RIM. you are SO hosed.

Bought it before it disappeared again.

I got it too. Works great!
I wonder if there is going to be any way for the carriers to detect this ‘unauthorized use’. I don’t plan on using a lot, just when I need to send a document or something like that from my MBP. Awesome.
Works awesome.
The best (the iPhone) just keeps getting better.
The App Store is a flip flopper.
This means I need to buy iPhone 3G right away!
All of that brouhaha was for nothing.
Just downloaded it… cool

All I want now is to be able to sync my iPhone with iTunes in less than 5 minutes, and I’ll be happy. At the moment, sync takes on average 15-20 mins… 🙁
Sounds like they (Apple) needed to make sure they could leave it up there. Once a few lawyers read up… they cleared it. What consumers do with it after the fact is not Apples problem. It’s between a end user and At&T;. Apple shouldn’t be a traffic cop. Now maybe we’ll get Skype now.
YeeeeHA!!! Finally, finally, finally!! Tether me, baby! This is a fantastic app. I am wiping the drool from my face as I type this…
Try this to try speeding up the iTunes syncing: http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/tips-tricks/how-to-speed-up-iphone-3g-syncing-in-itunes/
Will this allow my DS and PSP to connect to the internet via the iPhone? That would be great if it did.
I can’t get it to work…after you click “Advanced” tab in Sys Prefs/Network, where do you input your TCP/IP address?
I used the “Shark Modem” in CrapBerry once, and it complete sucks….
It was almost completely useless. almost no site can be viewed in the computer because of the time outs and messenger experienced a lot of disconnections.
I just downloaded it and set it up and it’s pretty cool.
The only issue I have is that if the phone “goes to sleep” or you press the Lock button on the top, the network connection drops out. So in order to use this you have to find some way to prevent your phone from going to sleep or locking itself after 15 minutes.
Yippee! Now I can surf Safari on my Mac as slow as on my iPhone! Saweet!
What would be cool, though, is to use the headphone jack on the iPhone in the same manner as an AirPort express.

The App Store is a flip flopper.”
tell me about it! between them and old man McCrabby pants they could rule the ’08 olympic gymnastics podium!
Nullriver wins the App Store marketing award for the month of August.
No one is going to top this for free advertising.
everyone is rushing out to buy it in fear of it getting pulled again…
i’d love to see the graph curve of sales tied to news events….
That’s exactly why I bought it! Get it while it lasts, because AT&T;isn’t going to like this one bit. Why should I buy their $60/month 3G modem for my macbook (which I was actually considering just yesterday) when I can just use my iPhone’s 3G connection?
Man, you can’t buy that kind of publicity!
Got it and it works great. Takes me back to the old 33.6 modem days.
I am composing this comment in Safari on my MBP while tethered to my iPhone classic which is on AT&T;’s Edge network.
While MDN’s pages are loading at their usual sluggish pace, they ARE LOADING. Very cool!
While NetShare apparently doesn’t work for application-based email yet (but you can use a webmail interface), I have checked and it is possible to access the iTMS with it. Wow.
This is an amazing demonstration of what the iPhone is going to become. Now all NetShare needs to do is make the connection process a little less geeky, and allow email apps to use it, too.
@Ralph M
What email apps are you referring to?
Apple Mail works just fine, and exactly as advertised.
Have you tried reading the manual???
“Why should I buy their $60/month 3G modem for my macbook (which I was actually considering just yesterday) when I can just use my iPhone’s 3G connection?”
All Windows Mobile phones have this capability. Why are Mac fanboys getting so excited about something that’s existed for years.
i can see this will let me avoid paying $10 a day for internet access in a hotel room for my laptop. or anyplace on the road with no ATT wifi. that’s nice. but what else is it really good for, practically? uses up the battery obviously. can’t really replace a home network ISP. just asking.
It may have been pulled again. Attempts to buy yield no response.
Got it, works great!!!
duhhhh, i don’t know how to set it up….
@ John E
Ever been in an Airport and the hotspot want’s you to pay $7.95 for a 24hour session? Well now you have a way to by-pass those buggers. BTW a post on this site is renigging on the free wifi at all their sites stasting that the press release was a typo.
Well the app store keeps telling me it is no longer available.
Looks like the app is gone again.
I just tried to download NetShare for my iPhone and it said it was unavailable. It got pulled down again I guess? Why does it keep going on and off every couple of hours??
Its no longer available in the US store.
Must be AT&T;we have to thank for that.
Gives the jailbreakers something to keep them alive.
I think it’s gone again–thank goodness I got it when I did!
And btw, the setup instructions could be better, but it works like a champ and didn’t take more than 5 minutes for me to get rolling.
Now I just hope AT&T;doesn’t get on my butt for using it. I promise it’ll only be for emergencies!
Wow, glad I got it on the second go-round. It works great – even with an 0G iphone and edge. Slow, but when I’m in my car somewhere and need to do some business from the parking lot, it will be a lifesaver!
