“Speaking to bi-tech.net last week, NVIDIA General Manager for Notebook GPUs confirmed that his firm would proactively leverage its The Way It’s Meant To Be Played program to encourage developers to release more titles for Mac. He said NVIDIA would also push for cross-platform developers to schedule their Mac gaming releases much closer to their PC counterparts,” Sam Oliver reports for AppleInsider.
“The Way It’s Meant To Be Played, or TWIMTBP, is a five year-old program that helps game makers with game development and incorporating exclusive features that take advantage of the latest GeForce video cards. Developers who participate in the program are provide extensive guidelines on game performance optimizations and often co-brand their titles with a TWIMTBP splash screens,” Oliver reports.

MacDailyNews Take: Developers would do very well for themselves to investigate which platform’s users are much more likely to pay for software and which platform is growing multiple times that of the Windows PC platform. We don’t want to ever have to boot up Windows, developers. We will pay for quality native Mac OS X software.
So there’s a Dead Space in Mac gaming?
Magic Word: space – ooh, spooky.
Keep plugging away at the myths and deficits in the platform Apple. Thankfully not many people buy a computer to play games. It may appear that there are a lot, but they are a vocal minority.
Blizzard should serve as a lesson to all game developers. Simultaneous release on hybrid discs, 100% equal treatment. I’d guess they are making some nice dough developing for Mac, or else they wouldn’t do it.
Mac User’s have always been more willing to pay for software then PC Users. Just ask Adobe.
Apple (not NVIDIA on Apple’s behalf) needs to do a better job of actively encouraging game developers to do simultaneous releases of games for OS X and Windows & consoles.
The best way to accomplish this in the current gaming climate would be for Apple to subsidize those major game companies which promise to, within 5 years, simultaneously release 80%+ of new titles to OS X. These game companies will eventually earn a significant portion of each year’s revenue from Mac gamers. With the game companies firmly entrenched in the development of Mac-based games, Apple can then stop giving subsidies. Everybody wins!
I wish nVidia would work with Apple to provide more current video cards for the Mac Pro with drivers for OS/X….that would help a lot also.
Now if we can just get Creative or someone to make a 5.1 surround sound card…
If Nvidia wants to help Mac gaming, how about releasing some more Mac-compatible graphics card upgrades for the Mac Pro?
@NCIceman
Why would you want a 5.1 surround sound card for a Mac Pro? It already has digital optical in/out. Unless you meant a USB one for iMacs/notebooks, in which case I agree.
Along the lines of what Jacob said, Apple could also help gaming by making the iMac with a swappable graphics card!
I too would be VERY happy to dump booting up Windows once given the choice of buying a Mac version of a game over the Windows one. I already stand by that, even should a Mac version come out later I’ll buy that and then play with that, swap over certain files if need be too!
Yes as mentioned already Blizzard can and so why can’t all the rest? Bring on Diablo 3!!
With companies like Nvidia making soundings in support of OSX, just look at their website it seems their hardware developers can’t get enough of OSX as only OSX gives them all the functionality they could possibly want above and beyond what Windows can.
Also hoping the scope of this goes beyond gaming software but also into hardware that would support a much more richer environment. I am embarressed that my Mac Pro uses Realtek for its sound capability. I would really love to see just the same hardware that PCs users have that also come with OSX drivers.
Not a hard thing to do is it afterall?
To my other Mac Pro users, go buy the 8800 card, I have and love it. Sure wait and see if Nvidia do release 96xxx and 98xxx for the Mac. Just don’t wait too long!
