PC Magazine debuts biweekly ‘Open Apple’ column penned by ThinkSecret staff
Thursday, August 31, 2006 - 12:53 PM EST

"Today marks the first installment of OpenApple, a column designed to help our readers bridge the shrinking gap between the Apple Macintosh and Windows PCs. The staff of ThinkSecret will be sharing news, insights, and analysis in a column running every other week," PC Magazine reports.

Today's column is about an expected Mac mini speed bump:

"Reliable insiders report that the Mac mini, Apple's most affordable system, is primed for a small speed bump. Though the updated models will not feature the newest processors, Apple plans to phase out the lowest-end Core Solo model, and a faster Core Duo configuration will take over the top seat. Pricing appears unlikely to change significantly from the current models' $599 and $799 tags," ThinkSecret.com reports for PC Magazine.

MacDailyNews Take: This is excellent news! Microsoft's Windows is slipping. Expect to see more of this sort of thing from "PC" media outlets as Apple Macintosh unit sales increase.

PC Magazines have to have Apple columns to be able to have a smooth transition for when PC/Windows only magazines will start not to sell that well anymore. Or... has that already happened?

Aug 31, 06 - 12:03 pm Comment from: bb

"Microsoft's Windows is slipping."

Overacting there a bit, ha?

Aug 31, 06 - 12:06 pm Comment from: LordRobin

Apple column? Great! Written by ThinkStupid? Not so much.

So I presume the overhyped, quickly forgotten rumor-of-the-month will now find it's way onto paper. Greeeeeat.

"The staff of ThinkSecret"

Isn't that one guy in a dorm room at Harvard? Or has he already graduated?

"a column designed to help our readers bridge the shrinking gap between the Apple Macintosh and Windows PCs"

err... isn't it the fact that the gap between Macs and Windoze is getting WIDER that is the cause for such a need to cover Macs, to inform the PC masses??

Aug 31, 06 - 12:16 pm Comment from: woof-x

Yeah, baby!

-not to be confused with "bb"-

I think you mean overreacting, but ditto nevertheless.

Harvard?

Isn't that America's McGill?

Aug 31, 06 - 12:38 pm Comment from: Jim - the independent voter

to b and bb...

I think you both meant overreaching not overacting or overreacting.... but this thread is overdone and I'm over it.

A column by ThinkIdiot?

HOW MANY STORIES HAS THINK SECRET GOT RIGHT THIS YEAR: 0

HOW MANY STORIES HAS THINK SECRET GOT WRONG THIS YEAR: 63

and these idiots hire this guy? every peice of rubbish the site has posted has turned out wrong. and the last i checked, there is no team whatsoever, it is just one over egoistic college kid who has gone down the shitter in my book.

Apple Insider has a much, much, much better track record than these idiots. in fact, they've predicted the entire mac intel line with accurate dates and case descriptions.

HECK! EVEN MAC DAILY NEWS has a better track record than think idiot and they dont even write their own stories!

my 2 cents

Think Secret "staff"?

Aug 31, 06 - 02:00 pm Comment from: 3rdKidney

MDN take, that's a good point. I didn't consider that. Apple advertises a lot in mac mags, but do they do the same in PC mags? I don't think so. I've never understood why they don't. Anyway, a regular column has more weight in a mag than an ad does anyway and the bi-weekly hit might just bump up the awareness of Apple's computer products where it really counts.

Aug 31, 06 - 02:49 pm Comment from: Viridian

Could have been worse; they could have featured a column from MacOSrumors, the Weekly World News of enthusiast sites.

Aug 31, 06 - 03:06 pm Comment from: bwhaler

Good news indeed.

I just wish it wasn't Think Secret. They have been pretty bitter since the whole falling-out with Apple.

>Isn't that America's McGill?>

McGill!!! Wot a larf.

Aug 31, 06 - 04:58 pm Comment from: Chris

I never understand statements like this: "bridge the shrinking gap between the Apple Macintosh and Windows PCs"

The gap is a large as it ever was. Maybe larger. The gap is quality, just as it was in the 80s. Now Mac quality is higher than it's ever been, and Windows and quality still don't belong in the same sentence.

Sep 01, 06 - 03:11 am Comment from: ducnan

I have a lot of trouble with the word biweekly - what does it mean, twice monthly or twice weekly?

Sep 01, 06 - 06:03 am Comment from: Lardlad

What is wrong with ThinkSecret? I must have missed something. I can only think of a few things they got wrong.

Saying Windows is slipping I don't think is overreacting, although it's not because of this news item.

Anyway this is a good deal.

Sep 01, 06 - 10:21 pm Comment from: The meaning of bi

@ ducnan : It means they like both boys and girls! wink
