Phoenix area to get fourth Apple Retail Store; UK Midlands to get one, too
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 10:35 AM EST

"Apple will open a fourth retail store in the Phoenix area, this time plunking down a store northwest of downtown at the Arrowhead Towne Center mall," ifoAppleStore reports.

"The store is about 20 miles from the existing Biltmore store, centrally located in Phoenix. The store could open by this October," ifoAppleStore reports.

More details in the full article here.

ifoAppleStore also has news that Apple will open a store in the Midlands of the UK on September 4th here.

there already is a store in the midlands - Birmingham. But another would be welcome - perhaps in Solihull or Stratford-on-Avon.

There's a third one in one of the new strip malls in the East Valley off the new stretch of the 202.

And yet Kildare still does not have one, or much of anything else...

Bad timing on our part. We live just a few minutes from there and we hate the drive to the other stores.... but we leave Phoenix in a month!

Bad location for a new store. There is a Mac Media store there.

I like Mac Media. They have been very helpful and I have shopped there many times . I live in the far north valley near Anthem and the trek to the Biltmore store is usually too far. Is it Apple policy to open new stores in location where local vendors do well, and to put them out of business?

A more central location would be better. Apple should place one at the new Happy Valley shopping center that's being finished. Oh, wait a minute, there is a Best Buy and a Circuit City at that location.

If they're putting another store in Metro Phoenix, we really need one in Scottsdale! Maybe next time?

I wish Apple would spread their stores out better. The Chicago area has quite a few but none south, southeast or in northwest Indiana. There all clumped together up north. None are very easy to get to. Is this the case in other cities as well?

There is a great new center going up here where apple would be a good fit and they would do great business. Come on apple there are mac users on this side of town with money to spend!

Apple's mantra for picking a site is "if they build it, you will go..."

I just found out about the 3rd store in the greater Phoenix area at San Tan village. I walked into the Chandler Mall store yesterday hoping to purchase a macbook pro 15.4" with 7200 rpm HD option. But the clerk advised me that customisation is not available at the store and I should order online. I'm leaving for overseas at the end of the month and so I'm running out of time. I rushed an online order and opted for a 3 day shipping (over night shipping option seems not to be available). But the online shipping option suggested that 3 day shipping does not include processing time and therefore I'm looking at more than 3-5 business days. As of this afternoon the order is still pending status. Calls for concern.

All of a sudden it dawned on me that maybe the clerk at the store had misspoken as it doesn't make any sense that all the retail apple stores should only carry the 5400 rpm hard drives. I called Apple CS and the support was outstanding. The agent called several stores near me and found one for me and gave me their store number and address. I'm now on my way to pick it up, but not before I extended out an appreciative kudos for the online support agent to his manager.

I feel bad for the guys at the Arrowhead Mac Media store. They are good people and have helped me out many times. They get all my business... and now it appears Apple is going to run them out of town.

(Note to Mac Media folks: please move your store to Surprise... you will do VERY well out here!!)
