“A photograph containing one of Apple’s fourth-generation iPhones has been lingering undetected in the public domain for nearly a week now thanks to having been overshadowed — quite literally — by the company’s new iPad,” Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider.
“People with an impeccable track record in matters such as these say the iPhone in below photo, published by gadget blog Engadget in the hours leading up to Apple’s iPad announcement last Wednesday, is a prototype of one of the handsets due to hit the market in roughly five months,” Jade reports.
“We spoke with Engadget to determine whether its unedited source imagery was of any superior quality, which it reportedly is not,” Jade reports. “Therefore, all we have to go off of is the fairly distorted shot you see here, which is bound to give way to some interesting analysis.”

Well, makes as much sense as anything.
you cant see anything…wtf is the point of posting it?
LOL let the rumormill being churning. honestly i think apple plants these things on purpose.
That picture is so blurry, I could have put a Nexus One there and said it was the next gen iPhone…
This is the iPad in a lock bezel.
Looking at the photo, I see no evidence whatsoever that indicates that the iPhone is anything other than a standard run-of-the-mill factory iPhone. In fact, it looks EXACTLY like my 3Gs or even my wife’s original iPhone, but in a typical rubber protective case.
There is no reason whatsoever for this story to exist. Move along, folks – nothing to see.
It seems like the iPhone may be plugged into the iPad. Also, is that a front facing lens to the left of the speaker on the iPhone?
Come on it’s a 3G, chill out and enjoy what is coming out in April. There’s going to be plenty of time for fake phones and speculation soon after!
actually that blob to the left of the earpiece is a reflection of a UFO trying to peep game on apple tech…
ha
Looks like a normal iPhone 3G or 3Gs to me.
I personally don’t see any evidence that this is the Next-gen anything…I agree with others…this isn’t a story, it’s a blurry photos of nothing more than an iPhone. ‘Cept a blue-screen of sumthin’ – don’t know what that’s about.
OMFG!!! This can’t be serious! It’s ugly enough to be made by tonka!
@iMaki: Worse than that; it’s ugly enough to be designed in Redmond.
I’ll stick with my 3G & get a WiFi iPad…
It looks like my 3G with a Marware case that’s sitting right next to me.
“iPhone in the wild?”
So now the home button is a nipple flash?
Q: Why can’t these guys who take spy photos buy a decent camera? Why do all the photos have to be blurry?
A: Oh, because they were photoshopped and then blurred up to disguise the editing?
No, bizlaw. Occam’s razor. Alcohol, greed and stupidity. A few wars started with the same basics.
THIS IS THE LAST STRAW, MDN. The fact that you can feel OK about publishing such useless rubbish is proof positive that this is nothing short of a Beta website with less then Beta content. Until a significant improvement becomes evident, I will not waste my time checking out this material.
It’s like a blurry image of the Yeti.
Oh gawd. Another 6 months of boring rumor mongering has started again.
So rumor addicts: Does the 4th generation iPhone do VIDEO? Does it have a user side camera lens? Will it be called the iPhone 4G? Will it have stereo recording capability? Will it have handwriting recognition? Will it have full speech recognition interface navigation and dictation? Will it have Google search or Boioioioink search?
Likes just like my 3GS in it’s black silicon Belkin skin. Move along, nothing to see here. This is not the 4G iPhone you’re looking for.
Nobody seems to realize that I am in the possession of an exclusive picture of the next generation iPhone.
Unfortunately, I can’t release it, since I am under NDA.
The picture is of impeccable quality, not withstanding the fact that it only has a limited field of view: exactly one pitch black pixel !!
Forgot to mention that I’d sell it to the highest bidder if it were not for this NDA.
Rumor, based on solid sources, report that the picture of this unit was taken with the units own camera. The camera attaches to the phone with an umbilical cord that reels up inside the phone. The cord is 100 feet long! The camera itself is 12mp, has auto focus from 34 to 100mm, will shoot legible pictures in complete darkness. The only obvious disappointment is it only shoots still pictures so no video conferencing. It it apparent that this new phone will not sell well as result. Once again, Apple blows it!
That’s totally an iPad — just look at the dimensions.
