Thursday, July 03, 2008 - 11:30 AM EST

The French-language website MacPlus has posted construction photos of Apple;s forthcoming retail store in Beijing, China.

The photos include shots of a glass staircase, windows and wall features, the current façade of the building (adorned with the Nike swoosh for now), and more.

See them here.

So, is this a real Apple store or a knock-off?

"Hey, how come these MacBook monitors have pictures painted on them and the inside is nothing but shredded newspapers?"

Where is the Apple logo. That looks like a Nike logo, there. Do we just take their word that this is China?

the presence of Apple stores in China is a good thing because it will increase the likelihood of leaks about a 1000%

Nothing like setting up business in an essentially lawless country. wink

You'd better get your keyboard checked out there, bud, it's making all kinds of incoherent squiggly lines.

That's the location of the new Apple Store Beijing. I was there with my Mac SE back in 1987, when Computerland was the only game in town. Of course, they closed!

I say: 这看起来像排泄物!

Am I the only one who notices in the pictures a sense of claustrophobia, gloom and shoddy workmanship? It also looks a bit smoggy outside. I guess they haven't turned off the smokestacks for the Olympics yet. >>cough cough<<

Question: Is Apple going to provide REAL or China Brand® CENSORED Internet access in the store? To have Apple fold to the diabolical totalitarianism of China would make me sad.

Unless the shop is run by marketing morons, I can't see Apple falling for trusting China to not infiltrate the store with illicit surveillance and spies. Instead I expect the China store won't know any secrets until they've already been announced publicly in the USA.

Also: I take offense at China being called an 'essentially lawless country." That is offensive in that it does not give the Chinese enough credit. What we call 'lawless' is what the Chinese call 'strategy'. In China the lawless practice of hacking and cracking of computers is not allowed! Instead China pays hackers and crackers to do their dirty work for the people's cause. Thus glorious China organized the Red Hacker Alliance who are responsible for the most successful organized cracking of international government computer networks in human history. Well, I suppose you have to give some of the credit for their success to Microsoft.

Screw Beijing, how about POUGHKEEPSIE,N.Y.???? PLEASE?

We have to travel 1.5 to 2 hours to get to a Mac store. I'm not doing it. Come on Apple! TONS of Mac users in the colleges here. This is a college saturated area! I have 3 colleges within a 4 mile radius of me. An Apple store would KILL here!
