“Apple may be golden because of the iPhone, but the soon-to-be updated device is also increasingly the source of forbidden fruit. Steve Jobs’ company is keeping a civil, if embarrassed, silence about one of the potentially most lucrative and controversial uses of its hand-held jewel: porn,” Jeremy Caplan reports for Time Magazine.
“The technological feats that the 3G iPhone can perform are key to the coming pornocopia… thanks in large part to the iPhone’s video dexterity, short clips are becoming a staple for the mobile porn business. The speed promised by iPhone 2.0 is much anticipated,” Caplan reports. “Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term ‘iPhone porn.'”
“Leading porn purveyors see the iPhone as a dream come true. Its relatively ample screen size, speedy Web access and ease of use are just part of it. The device’s miniaturized version of Apple’s Safari software simplifies mobile access and streamlines the process of tailoring dirty sites for optimal viewing on the go. ‘It’s by far the porn-friendliest phone,’ says Devan Cypher, spokesperson for San Francisco-based Sin City Entertainment,” Caplan reports.
“Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock says the company doesn’t condone iPhone porn distribution and will ban adult content from official applications, just as it has restricted adult content in the podcast section of the Apple store. But they can’t prevent customers from accessing porn through the device’s browser,” Caplan reports. “Indeed, the new iPhone may eventually propel mobile porn deeper into the sphere of interactivity.”

Yes, the XXX 3G-Spot Special Edition. With louder vibrate mode.
I guess we will finally get “flash” video…..
“Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock . . .”
Too easy.
And this is “news” because …? Oh, right, because some analyst just recognized the obvious! Congrats, Jeremy. It only took you a couple of weeks to pick up on the punch line. Do you call people back a month after the party to say “Buddy! That was a GOOD one. … The one about the …?”
” iPhone may eventually propel mobile porn deeper into the sphere of interactivity.”
Yes, another one that is easier than Paris Hilton on ecstasy…
Hi hi hi… it’s going to be called the “iPhone 3G Spot”!!!!!!!!!!!!
No more sticky keys. Just wipe the screen clean with a damp cloth

Jeez – Do you talk to your mother on that phone?!
Personally I think this opens the door for new implementations of the multi-touch interface.
That’s no big surprise that the iPhone would work okay with porn web sites, except for one tiny thing; no Flash. I’m not sure how the iPhone would work with most web sites that utilize Flash programming. I’m sure that iPhone people could comment on this.
Also porn web sites have this thing about redirection, Pop-up ads, cookies, and in some cases, spyware, and other nefarious activities. Remember the one Macintosh virus is one that you can get from porn sites?
If the iPhone had Flash, it could bring porn mobile all by itself. The current porn revolution is with Flash sites like Xtube, Pornotube, Megarotic, etc. Though you can use Tinytube.net to view videos from most of those sites in your iPhone/touch browser. But the internet porn industry is all about Flash.
At the very least you’d think embedded QuickTime movies would work but they don’t.
Porn is like drugs.
One hit is never enough. You have to have more. And more. And more.
It may seem like a great thing but it sits in your brain for years and corrupts you from the inside like a virus. The best thing you can do is keep clear. There are thousands upon thousands of porn addicts who can’t kick it. If you feel a craving to see more after leaving porn alone for a few days/weeks you are addicted.
In a forum like this I realize this post will get a *ton* of flack, but seriously, Ted Bundy was interviewed a few hours before his execution. Guess how he got started? He found some porn. It gnawed at his mind and he began to collect thousands of magazines, but it wasn’t enough.
You know the rest.
Please please please try to steer clear of it.
Guess how many wives/girlfriends like to be compared to the girls portrayed in porn?
None.
iPhone porn?!? I thought that was the unboxing and dissection ritual?
Guess how many of us husbands care?
None.
Jennifer Blow– what?
Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock says the company doesn’t condone iPhone porn
this story has to be a hoax … however it would make for some great headlines:
Bowcock finishes off hopes for iPhone hardcore
Bowcock refuses to provide happy ending for porn Apps
Bowcock resists throbbing advances from adult industry
@Pervasive
Boy, there’s nothing like believing what you want to believe. And why on earth would you listen to anything Bundy has to say?
Are you a porn addict, or just weak-minded?
Mobile Porn… Gives a whole new meaning to CrackBerry.
Is Jennifer’s name pronounced “bow” as in bow & arrow? Or is it pronounced “bow” as in to bend the knee or body or incline the head, as in reverence, submission or acknowledgement”
It’s an important question.
“Guess how many wives/girlfriends like to be compared to the girls portrayed in porn?”
You should ask Jenna Jameson.
why do women always bitch about the porn thing? Then during, you can’t pull their hair hard enough or donkey punch them enough.
Bow- as in, put a bow in your hair and sit on my lap.
C’mon! We need MacPlaymate for the iPhone!
Virtual Valerie,
She’s my cybernetic fantasy…
seen Jenna Jameson lately? The years, they have not been kind.
@wives: get some spine
@ pervasive: yes, sex is the root of all evil. I think the fact that it has been so repressed in our society is largely why people fly off the handle with things like porn. It’s been with us forever and probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Different strokes (sorry!) for different folks, but Ted Bundy was unstable to begin with. Nothing has power over you unless you give it permission. Live and let live people.
I seem to recall Steve saying no porn when they first announced the SDK; that’s probably the last comment from Apple on the subject we’ll see.
@DLMeyer
“And this is “news” because …?”
You don’t have to read the article if you don’t want to. The headline is pretty clear.
The true waste of time is your comment that in no way contributes to the article at hand. You could cut and paste your generic complaint into every discussion.
How many times does MDN need to make to the point that they post articles that may be of interest to Apple enthusiasts. If you’re not interested move on. Not everyone reads every article every day. Some of us want to hear a variety of opinions on the same topic.
I’m personally glad to hear the the iPhone is the best device for porn. That means lots of people will buy it and everyone will benefit from the large user base.
