“The consensus amongst most early iTunes 7.0 adopters is that the software release — dubbed by Apple chief executive Steve Jobs as the most significant update to iTunes yet — is not the company’s best work,” AppleInsider reports.
“Users around the Web and on Apple’s support forums are reporting an assortment of quality issues since updating to the new version — released last week — such as frequent crashes, poor audio quality and interface graphics anomalies. New gapless playback technology is being blamed for the majority of the bugs,” AppleInsider reports.
AppleInsider reports,” People with ties to Apple say the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is well aware of the matter and that it’s toiling feverishly to rectify the issues. It hopes to release an update to both the Mac and PC versions of the jukebox software — presumably iTunes 7.0.1 — as soon as possible, those people say.”

I for one haven’t had any issues with it. It seems much faster than 6 was, and after you let it go through and do the gapless thing, it works great.
Yes, an update is sorely needed.
No problems for me! on a 3 year old eMac! Maybe when i get my 20″ Core2 iMac I can join the problem club.
Guess I’m lucky. It’s worked fairly flawlessly for me since the day it came out.
I don’t know anyone personally who’s having these issues, but it’s been on a lot of boards. I’m sure they are out there but I wouldn’t avoid iTunes 7 because of them. For me gapless playback works fine and is the best thing to happen to my library since iTunes itself.
I’ve only had issues with my 3G iPod…it’s freezing and skipping songs when playing. Did a complete reset and still not solved…hopefully this update will be the solution for me.
Agreed! This iTunes 7 totally SUCKS!
What’s wrong is this:
1: Hundreds of bugs, especially in the Windows version.
2: Ugly looks, nasty depressing blue grey like Mail.
3: Media is too large for older machines to handle, hard drive space a concern.
4: Slow synching to iPods over USB2, (how about a Firewire 800 “mini” port on the top in addition to the slow USB2?)
5: Coverflow sucks compared to the original verison.
6: iTunes 7 is bloated and is holding a iTMS buyers purchase habit hostage to force a early upgrade of hardware. Steve seems he can’t wait to get everyone on HDCP, Trusted Computing, EFI snitching Intel processors so he can release the iTV device.
7: iTunes 7 just too radical of a change, and the buttfsckugly type!!
What Apple needs to do is not have a “one sized iTunes fit’s all approach” they need to start limiting certain features from even loading into RAM to match particualr hardware.
The same with the movie and video quality, some machines and internet connections can only handle 320 x 240 and people should have the option to choose that.
Everyone is crying for 1080p, but it takes several hours to several days to download that quality of content.
iTunes needs to be more flexible, and Apple needs to drop the “Windows” look alike fit and polish.

The new iTunes works great for me but the quicktime update that came with it keeps crashing other programs from the iLife suite. My iDVD will crash before it can burn anything thanks to the latest iTunes/Quicktime update. iDVD worked well before this update and I haven’t updated anything else other than quicktime/iTunes. So, those out there that haven’t updated yet. Beware.
No problems over 8 macs on a network.
Yea this update is making my machine crawl, Apple should have done a incremental release.
I’m missing tons of my TV shows because I had to revert back to iTunes 6.x and it won’t allow me to buy unless I upgrade.
I even rebooted my Mac after a power failure, complete outgoing firewall engaged and I got a update popup window.

I use high res cover art which I scanned from my cd covers, it seems to make Coverflow slow, even on a dual G5. 🙁

Thanks for the heads-up on iDVD. I haven’t tried iDVD since I’ve updated QT and iTunes. Are you using the Registered version of QT?

If it’s Intel based Mac, that’s most likely a EFI firmware driver. A OS based firewall won’t catch that.
Interesting Apple is implementing this so early, can’t wait to start selling movies and Hollywood wants HDCP in full force first.
No probs with iTunes or Quicktime directly, but for some damn reason I could NOT close Mail yesterday, nor could I shut down or reboot without pulling the plug. Some program was hogging the CPU something fierce, and after 15 minutes of trying to shut down peacefully, gave up.
mine is buggy- on my g4 & macbook. Music simply stops playing for no apparent reason- we use it as a home stereo, so it may be more noticable in our case. . . .
Absolutely no problems here. Been running it on a Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 and an iBook G4 1.33 .

To True Believer:
1. Huge exaggeration. Try “some” bugs, not “hundreds.” (Fixes will be just as free as the original download.)
2. Your opinion. Of a pretty minor cosmetic change that affects usage not at all.
3. Old machines have problems with high-quality files? This is iTunes’ fault? Suggestion: don’t use big files then, or use whatever other software you think will magically make big video use less HD space.
4. USB2 is faster than the HD inside the iPod! These things are tiny, slower than laptop drives. And now you can even boot from USB2.
5. If you don’t like CoverFlow, don’t turn it on. Why does it “suck”? (I love it.)
6. Where on the Grassy Knoll do you get all that from?? Did your music suddenly stop playing until you buy an iTV? Because mine sure didn’t.
7. Too radical a change? Might I suggest sticking with iTunes 6 if you don’t like progress?

No problems here. I wonder if some of the issues of dissapearing songs could be due to messed up tags and the like. I keep all of my files pristene (in fact I just finished getting all my artwork right before the release…thanks. I hope they can add ‘get lyrics’ to the next rev tho. All in all, im pleased with it other than a few quibbles about the UI, but I can deal.
My only issue is that it has downloaded an album by NA (some singer I guess… I dunno) as artwork for the items I have listed as N/A under the artist and album. I have changed most of them so the album and artist are blank or say none or various, but several of them are streaming radio stations that automatically revert to N/A everytime I play them. The streaming stations also prevent me from manually changing the artwork. So now I am stuck with the completely wrong artwork.
Cover Flow was really slow for me at first, and I noticed the problem was primarily on tracks I had ripped from CDs – in other words artwork I had collected off the internet. So I ran a couple of Apple Scripts to strip the third-party artwork and then downloaded artwork from the iTMS, and it is very snappy now. Must be a formatting or file type thing.
Other than that, I’ve had no issues. Then again, I don’t have a ton of third party plug-ins or anything, though I do use Synergy.

First…that’s good. I hope it stays that way. In concept iTunes 7 is pretty great though you may disagree. I happen to like CoverFlow…though it’s more eye candy than a practical tool…it very well might help some people re-discover music in their collection they don’t spend much time with.
But be aware! I had 7 running just fine for a week…then it went sideways…BIG TIME.
So It may be that over time the bugs will begin to surface that you don’t see right away. My recommendation is to be ready to downgrade if necessary or hopefully the update will rectify this situation… It was cleary rushed out the door before complete testing was done.
I have one issues with iTunes that appeared with the update. I do have an Airport Express. If I listen to music only connected to it (via the stereo chain) all is fine. If I select multiple speakers (so sound is via the Express and the MacBook Pro itself) then I have gaps of silence on the Express at random times, lasting between a beat, and a second or so blank period.
For the rest, all worked as expected, even the artwork for CDs where I had ripped tracks and found cover on the net.
I’ve had no problems with iTunes 7 at all, but QT 7.1.3 has been acting rather screwy. I think that’s where most of the problems are coming from.
