If necessary, Fnac electronics will sue Apple to sell iPhone in France

“PPR SA’s electronics retail chain Fnac is in discussions to distribute Apple Inc.’s iPhone handset in France, French daily Le Figaro reports Tuesday,” MarketWatch reports.

“Denis Olivennes, head of the Fnac chain, [says] France Telecom SA’s Orange brand’s exclusive rights for the iPhone in France are ‘inadmissible.’ If the discussions are unsuccessful, Fnac plans to take legal action,” MarketWatch reports.

So, now that large retail chains are threatening to sue Apple into letting them sell the iPhone, will the one or two goofball (and/or scheming) analysts who work for second- and third-tier investment research firms continue to voice “concern” about Apple’s ability to sell a measly 10 million units in 2008?

    Probably.

  2. Hello MacDailyNews Take,
The “about Apple’s ability to sell a measly 10 million units in 2008?”
    Should be:
“about Apple’s ability to sell a measly 10 million units by the end of 2008?”
    It’s never been 10 mil IN ’08.
The idiots will be quoting you…

  3. “Denis Olivennes, head of the Fnac chain, [says] France Telecom SA’s Orange brand’s exclusive rights for the iPhone in France are ‘inadmissible.'”

Is it just me or does that not make any sense? Bad translation? Or, is he already admitting defeat in a court of law?

French law is soooo messed up. It wouldn’t surprise me if they win.

  4. At the AT&T;kiosk in the local Sam’s Club here, there is a sales guy working there with an iPhone.

Of course, you can’t buy the iPhone there, so he says it isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. A guy that I know asked if then, “If it isn’t so good, then why do you have one?” His answer? …“Because I have a Mac, so I need to have a compatible phone!”

This is so wrong that I don’t know where to begin! Of course, if you want a smart phone that integrates well with a Mac, other phones will do, if you prefer. This guy is actually spreading FUD about the Mac, and perpetuating the myth that compatibility problems abound, just to make sales. Worse yet, he claims he’s a Mac user, so either he’s lying, or he doesn’t know what he’s talking about!

This is not the way to be successful in sales! I am a sales manager at a car dealership, and before I was a manager, I was an excellent salesman, setting new records that my dealership had never seen before, and then breaking them.

This makes me shake my head in disgust, both as an Apple fan, and as a salesman.

  5. More at stake than just the iPhone ! Fnac has stores in the BeNeLux too ! One of the largest Apple resellers. No iPhone, no more Macs either ! If Americans want to co-brand, let them. In Europe seems to be a no go. I want a 3g iPhone with a provider of my choice ! Just sell the dam phone everywhere !
Pissed Mac Fan from day one !
