Report: Mac OS X 10.5.8 imminent
Friday, July 03, 2009 - 11:25 AM EST

Financing Options"The next update for Mac OS X Leopard is rapidly advancing towards release, reports suggest," MacNN reports.

"Build 9L22 of v10.5.8 is said to have been delivered to developers on Wednesday, following the distribution of 9L20 last Friday," MacNN reports.

"Such turnaround times are typically a sign of imminent release for Apple software, evidence for which may be backed by a shift in testing focus," MacNN reports.

Imminent soon to be followed by snappy. As usual.

Or it just indicates a critical bug was introduced in 9L20 and promptly fixed in 9L22....

Jul 03, 09 - 11:08 am Comment from: @Xan

And that "critical" bug might be . . . . . .?

(Seems we might have heard about such a horrific beast by now, methinks.)

Jul 03, 09 - 11:11 am Comment from: blah blah blah...

This is the most over used word when it comes to apple updates IMMINENT. it is imminent to use the word imminent when it comes to apple updates.

Jul 03, 09 - 11:15 am Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

And 'snappy'. Never forget 'snappy'.

Jul 03, 09 - 11:21 am Comment from: J.Scott

I don't much care what they fix other than restoring my ability to send and receive faxes (without jumping through hoops) which was broken with the last update.

Anybody else notice a weird little issue with Safari 4? When I select items from my Bookmarks Bar, sometimes nothing happens. Never saw this behavior before Safari 4.

Jul 03, 09 - 11:40 am Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

@ alansky,

Nothing like that for me. Could it be caused by any add-ons you have installed? You could try removing them one at a time and testing.

And it will also be eminent!

Jul 03, 09 - 01:18 pm Comment from: Better fix 1920x1200 on HDMI

This update had better the ridiculous problem where 10.5.7 users with a monitor hooked up via HDMI lost 1920x1200 and ended up with a non-native 1920x1080. That was perhaps the most retarded "feature" of 10.5.7.

Ahh... an opportunity to restart my iMac. How nice...

"And that "critical" bug might be . . . . . .?

Well, some of us have a candidate or two.

The one I ran into is this: If you made the Ethernet interface inactive in your current Network Location (e.g., it's a Location you configured for wi-fi hotspots), and you try to sleep your MacBook Pro, it will sleep the first time, then the second time it will lock up the entire machine. The entire machine. Nothing, no secret key combo whatsoever, will un-freeze the mouse or keyboard other than a hard restart. The screen stays lit up, too. If you didn't notice that your machine didn't go to sleep and you put it in your bag or leave it unattended for a while, the fact that it locked up before going to sleep means you could come back to a fried laptop.

There is an extremely long thread on Apple Discussions by those of us who got bit by this total system crasher before somebody figured out it was the Ethernet interface setting. The rest of us were wondering how the hell that one got by Apple Quality Control.

@ Rattymouse,

Breaking news, or just breaking wind?

Something about this just doesn't smell right.

Who am I to doubt you?

Jul 06, 09 - 01:14 pm Comment from: Smarmy Bastard

(Sigh) I had my first kernel panic after installing 10.5.7. I hope this feature gets turned off.
