Report: Major Apple event on September 5th

“Apple’s new line of iPods will indeed be introduced in September, in line with recent speculation and rumors,” Jacqui Cheng reports for Ars Technica.

“The company plans to drop the bomb on us with a major unveiling during the first week of September—specifically, September 5, according to our sources within the company,” Cheng reports.

“The fifth is odd day for an event (a Wednesday instead of the typical Tuesday), but we are told that the reason for this is the long holiday weekend,” Cheng reports.

“Our sources are slim on details for exactly what will be announced, but said that at least one of the things that will come out of September 5th will be a new iPod,” Cheng reports. “What I find to be interesting is that this event, before the date was officially decided, was described to me as very major product launch, something completely unexpected.”

  1. Remember that Jobs and Co have for some time being saying how excited they are about the product pipeline.

Makes me wonder if they’d say that just about a new iPod… so, just maybe, there is something more in the offing??

  2. Hmm funny how I already have my fifth gen iPod on ebay currently. I have always sold iPods quickly before a release is imminent for a replacement model! I doubt I will get much for it though being that the 5th generation iPod has been out since 2005 I believe.

  3. I hope it is a new touch-screen iPod, but with some cool features that noone has thought of and something to separate it more distinctly from the iPhone. I don’t think there will be a iPhone 2.0, but I do think there will be a cool iPhone 1 update that includes some more cool apps.

  4. Once again, the world’s R&D departments, industrial design specialists and corporate boardrooms will all pause in unison, turn and face Cupertino as Apple unveils “what’s next”. Old plans and strategies will be scrapped and new ones will be hastily drawn up in a desperate attempt to remain relevant in their respective businesses. Ebay will see a rise in traffic as consumers unload their last-generation Apple devices and landfills will swell with even more microsoft based scrap.

  5. Like a lamb to the slaughter. Hey new iPod, unless you’re available in tantalizing brown, watch out for the Zune. You’re about to be crushed.

iPod lemmings, what does it feel like to helplessly watch the steamroller come your way and you can’t move? Losers.
