Robotic touchscreen test: Apple iPhone ‘by far the best,’ Motorola Droid the worst (with video)

“Apple has by far the best touchscreen accuracy of any smartphone maker, a new round of MOTO testing has discovered. A follow-up on the finger-only test has used a robot to gauge the absolute accuracy and has found that only the iPhone’s touchscreen could draw consistently straight lines on most of the screen,” Electronista reports. “The Nexus One was second but still produced wavy lines, a behavior that also carried over to the Droid Eris.”

“Other devices performed noticeably worse or had mixed results,” Electronista reports. “The BlackBerry Storm2 and Palm Pre performed almost as well as the iPhone with a regular touch but quickly lost accuracy and input with a lighter touch. Motorola’s Droid fared the worst with noticeable errors regardless of the strength of input.”

  1. No problem, only real men buy droids, and they have plenty of strength to push hard. Not like us sissy iPhoners. BTW two of my golf buddies got Droids and both had to return them because many of the buttons quit working. Had to pull the battery to shut down even. I don’t know how representative that is but it is 100% of my experience.

  2. “The BlackBerry Storm2 and Palm Pre performed almost as well as the iPhone..”

Seriously? From my viewpoint, the iPhone’s lines were completely straight, and the Storm and Pre had squiggly lines.

  3. There you go. Just show this to the naysayers and iPhone bashers. The iPhone is by far the best of the entire line up and will continue to do so. iPad is going to perform just as amazingly well.

  4. U think think this is bad? Try one of those iPhone Clones Sci-phone i68. I’m sure it will do worse than all of these. I have one, used it for 2-3 months and I can’t stand it anymore. I got it thinking I could type my text messages easier but it’s actually more time consuming. U have to press down hard onto the screen & input is so, so inaccurate. Seems like it uses hardware from the 90’s. For $50 new, u get what u pay for. At least I now now to steer clear of that garbage.

I’m actually going to repair the hinges on my almost 4 Y/o Moto Razr, put it the 2GB card I got for the clone and use it until iPhone is finally comes to T-Mobile.

Apple is allowing the iPhone to be purchased without a contract. I understand that they can be unlocked in a few minutes. After that you may be able to get a T-mobile card and have it run on the T-mobile 2g (not 3G) system.

  6. News is that it may come to T-Mobile later this year or around this time next year.

I can wait. I have a 2nd Gen 16GB ipod touch which takes off the steam. Put skype on it and use it for calls & texting. I repaired my old Moto Razr with new $3 hinges + a new pare battery I had which I never used. I can hold up for another year.
