RUMOR: 3G iPhone to cost €100 in Spain, £100 in UK with O2 offering free iPhone 3G upgrade
Thursday, June 05, 2008 - 09:03 AM EST

"O2 is planning to hatch a series of attractive propositions to boost 3G iPhone sales in the UK," Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.

"Macworld sources claim the device will cost £100 and be sold with an 18-month contract, but Apple's UK network partner may harbour deeper plans for the launch of the device. Including free upgrades, free phones for high-tariff users and pay-as-you-go deals," Evans reports.

Full article here.

In another related article, Evans reports, "Apple's exclusive Spanish partner, Telefonica's Movistar, will sell the 3G iPhone for under €100, local reports claim."

"Local Spanish reports claim this news, saying the low cost will be made available to customers signing-up for a 24-36 month contract. The report also claims the device will have a video camera and GPS," Evans reports.

"While speculation favours the introduction of the iPhone at WWDC next week, it's widely believed the device won't actually ship until the first anniversary of the iPhone's US launch, 29 June," Evans reports.

And it will be as light as butterfly wings, taste like candy and communicate with ghosts and aliens. There's still no removable battery because it's powered by good intentions. I read this from one of a thousand online analysts that's also a self-proclaimed tech expert so it must be true.

Isn't that around $150-$200 US? Wow!

Jun 05, 08 - 08:29 am Comment from: Ted the Turnip Puller

Wait until you read the fine print in the those 18-36 month contracts before getting too excited.
Look for very limited minutes, very restricted data transferring and high, high, high monthly rates.
3G yes, high costs to use.....well of course!!!

@Ampar: "Communicate with ghosts and aliens."

That was funny.

Registered or unregistered aliens? Maybe guest workers?

Jun 05, 08 - 08:58 am Comment from: MikeR

It would be nice if the iPod touch was made to work on a Edge or 3g network. Data only plan from att.

"Registered or unregistered aliens?"

Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made a formal request for the acquisition of SETI as a precaution for the possible invasion of another category of illegal aliens. A separate request for the construction of a security fence to surround the Earth's exosphere is still under consideration. Amnesty was briefly discussed but dismissed in the interests of national and global security.

@guessing (and slightly off-topic)

The term is: "Nonresident aliens" (includes foreign students on an exchange visitor visa)

Rumors, Tumors, Bloomers. Just wait, can't you?

Jun 05, 08 - 09:48 am Comment from: pyeman

his makes me happy against all the people that thought I was silly for buying the iPhone and the £35 contract in December. Most said it was too expensive, and that they would wait to see what happens with the 3g iPhone. I've been enjoying my iPhone for 6 months now, and a free upgrade would make it even better!
Also, people who chose the anySim route loose out, even though they said it was a better option (more minutes and texts, but no internet!?) as they're not O2 customers, therefore won't get the free upgrade, which makes me feel even happier about my purchase.

@ MikeR:

I have read rumors that you will be able to turn 3G on and off, using Edge when it's off... So you may get what you are looking for.

Oops, I didn't see you were talking about the iPod touch. Never mind, but you never know...

Serious pressure building up from the ******* on our Steve to play the game, their game, their way. There will be lots more, there's still a few days to go. Bet there's some heavy duty FUD/pressure in the Sunday Papers.

Stick to the price Steve, don't subsidize it with crapware, advertising etc.

Want something cheap, get a Nokia, or RIM or whatever, and a Toshiba Tablet, or PDA with a big screen. Get a roll of duck tape and stick them together. Fits easily in a back-pack and you can run all that fabulous Windows software too. Oops that not so cheap now.

Lots of people have no concept of value, just of price.
