RUMOR: Apple books Linkin Park for ‘secret’ NYC event performance
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 - 12:33 PM EDT

"Apple has enlisted the services of popular alternative rock band Linkin Park to perform at an unannounced company event due to take place in New York City, AppleInsider has been informed," Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.

"Mike Shinoda, front-man for the Grammy award winning group, revealed the plans in a brief message to his fans on Monday... 'Look forward to a special show that we’re doing in NYC in conjunction with Apple…shh…it’s a secret,'" Marsal reports.

"It's unclear weather this 'secret' New York City event has anything to do with a an Apple product event rumored to take place during the final week of the month," Marsal reports.

Feb 19, 08 - 01:44 pm Comment from: Tiger Leopard

Like Steve Job's said, "It's only the first two weeks of 2008, we have 50 more to go." Apple will continue to make headlines all year.

Feb 19, 08 - 01:46 pm Comment from: Megame

Apple sure has bad taste in music....

Feb 19, 08 - 02:39 pm Comment from: slurpee

helloOOOooooo.... obviously it's the announcement that superdrive now equates to Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray for all optical-drive Macs.

Feb 19, 08 - 02:42 pm Comment from: iMacDave

U2? Aren't they like old or something? (what today's youth might be thinking)

Feb 19, 08 - 02:44 pm Comment from: Mac+

@ Hummer

Indeed!!! I keep posting on this forum about why Apple should do a better job worldwide. Especially in emerging markets.

Can you believe that even in Africa people are ready for the iPhone, and Apple keep doing most of its stuff in the US. The world is bigger than NYC.

If they really wanna do events/concerts? Why not renting the Wembley stadium, organizing a mega concert with iTunes artists.... that would catch worldwide attention.

Feb 19, 08 - 02:57 pm Comment from: Ampar

"The world is bigger than NYC."

Something Rudy Giuliani eventually figured out.

Why don't we just post in lol cat?

Feb 19, 08 - 03:09 pm Comment from: mike k.

coming in feb '08:

... a thousand insipid and mopy lyrics set against generic aggressive sounding power chords, all in your shirt pocket ... the iAngst, from Apple.

Feb 19, 08 - 03:16 pm Comment from: Buster

Linkin Park? Clearly Apple doesn't care if anyone shows up.....

Feb 19, 08 - 03:19 pm Comment from: Buster

better still....get the remainder of the Beatles, Ringo and Paul, to come a do a verion of the Stones's song "Start me up". That would attract a lot of people (nostalgia), a lot of press (controversy and confusion over the song vs company) and it'll piss off Microsoft no end.

Feb 19, 08 - 03:59 pm Comment from: Sammy Davis Sr.

In the near future:

"It was leaked to the media today that the douchenozzle singer from a band no one cares about lost the only gig that anyone would have cared about that involves his insipid band. The reason for its firing is the small brain and large mouth of the lead "singer".

More news to follow on the Who Gives A F*** Channel"

Feb 19, 08 - 04:09 pm Comment from: Yours Smugly

Linkin Park is now alternative rock? I thought their genre was called "nu-metal".

Feb 19, 08 - 04:13 pm Comment from: K

Lol wow people are really getting worked up over what band is playing. From the sounds of it most of you are probably over 40+ maybe Apple is trying to bring in a younger crowd to this concert? Most people under 30 should know this band. There are some better choices out there for sure, but having a concert geared towards a younger audience is not a bad thing.

Feb 19, 08 - 04:14 pm Comment from: Zeke

"It's unclear weather this...event..." is perfectly clear to me. Unclear weather is cloudy weather, so it's cloudy.

Feb 19, 08 - 04:19 pm Comment from: Zeke

@Hummer:

"What a waste of money. While Apple concentrates on organising concerts, its worldwide market share, particularly in Asia, is stuck at a pathetic 1%. Wake up Apple. If you don't sell in significant unit quantities to Asian customers, the US recession will see your revenues fall back to pre-2000 levels. At which point I will laugh at Steve Jobs & his misguided marketing prowess (or lack thereof). Microsoft may make terrible products but at least it's got its marketing on track for the rest of the world."

Marketing? You mean having people pirate your software is now "marketing"? The main reason Apple's market share is low in Asia is that Windows is "free" and the boxes to run it on cost $13.

This is the same time frame they are shipping my Time Capsule, maybe it is related..hmm

Feb 19, 08 - 05:17 pm Comment from: Ralph

Finally, Apple's creating a music label!!!

Feb 19, 08 - 05:23 pm Comment from: StinkerMagoo

direct quote from the article... It's unclear whether this "secret" New York City.

Looks like the folks at MDN would qualify to work at the Genius Bar, filling the ice-buckets, mopping puke from the floor, emptying ashtrays and washing glasses!. Oh, that would also apply to all of you who did not verify your sources.

MDN word, history, as in... this site has a history of uninformed readers dancing around sophomoric input

I'd pay good money to go anywhere in the world, if Apple threw a party like that!

Feb 19, 08 - 08:00 pm Comment from: Ampar

I'd show up for Linkin Logs.

Feb 19, 08 - 08:29 pm Comment from: scut

Please...anything but another iPod refresh.

Feb 20, 08 - 07:50 am Comment from: Adrian

Actually, Y-100 here in Miami has been advertising the event for a month now. People have been calling in so they can get into the event. They talk about it in every single commercial break, so it's not a secret whatsoever.
