RUMOR: Apple Macbook Pro to get Macbook Air-like keyboard
Monday, June 23, 2008 - 10:10 PM EST

"We have received some new information regarding Apple’s Macbook and Macbook Pro models, which have been long overdue for a design overhaul. Although the current case design is nearly flawless on both, rumors have continued to circulate about complete case refreshes for both machines," Aviv reports for MacBlogz.

"We have spoken with a connected source close to us, and they tell us that the Macbook Pro will, '100% have a Macbook Air-like keyboard. Feeling more like the Macbook’s current keyboard, yet offering backlight,'" Aviv reports.

"We asked about the track-pad but they shrugged it off as if it was no big deal. Almost indicating that the current track-pad might be sufficient in Apple’s opinion. We also asked if they could confirm a launch date, to no avail," Aviv reports. "We think it would only make sense for the Macbook Pro to inherit the Air’s track-pad. And based on Apple’s past history, the end-of-the-summer (right before school starts) launch date seems pretty accurate."

That reminds me of my favorite Styx song, "Crystal Ball".

I always wondered if they had opened for the Rolling Stones, what would they have called that tour?

Jun 23, 08 - 09:43 pm Comment from: coolfactor

What about the Air's trackpad is special, other than its size? Doesn't the current Pro already have a larger trackpad?

Jun 23, 08 - 09:57 pm Comment from: Mikey

JUST GIVE ME A NEW MAC MINI!!!

Whew, that felt good.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:09 pm Comment from: MikeR

How about the Beatles and Juice Newton on tour.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:11 pm Comment from: TowerTone

Apple Newton, or Beatle Juice? LOL!!

Jun 23, 08 - 10:13 pm Comment from: CYxodus

I hope it comes out before I buy a MacBook Pro.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:14 pm Comment from: nathaniel

I'm not sure why people think the Air and MacBook (and iMac for that matter) have the best keyboards. Personally, I really like the Pro's keyboard - much more than the others.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:16 pm Comment from: MacBill

The MacBook Air trackpad is horrible... the button is waaay too thin. Let's hope that the Air trackpad NEVER makes it into the MacBook Pro.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:21 pm Comment from: MikeR

I was thinking Beatle Juice, but the other is good as well.
I was trying to come up with a tour for Cream.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:34 pm Comment from: Joe

Yeah, a new MINI with a real video card and im sold.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:36 pm Comment from: geo

I LOVE the Air's keyboard and I have a MBP, too. Seems logical progression.

Jun 23, 08 - 10:36 pm Comment from: YellowBirdman

Hmmm … how about Little Richard and Cream?
Great White and Cream?
Vanilla Ice Cream? Oooh, yeah, that's just bad.
Boston Cream?

Jun 23, 08 - 10:41 pm Comment from: ragarcia

I really like the keyboard on my MBP as well, but the one on the Air and MB did not feel as bad as I thought it was going to be...

Jun 23, 08 - 10:52 pm Comment from: TowerTone

How about the Butthole Surfers and Cream?
I think I saw an ad for something like that in the back of a magazine.....

Jun 23, 08 - 10:55 pm Comment from: macaholic

How about Cream and Humble Pie?
Don't make me spell it out for you!

Jun 23, 08 - 11:07 pm Comment from: TowerTone

How about Joe Cocker, Neil Young and Lyle Lovett?

Jun 23, 08 - 11:17 pm Comment from: Ho, ho.

With all those left over MBA parts lying around from slumping sales, Apple quickly innovates and wedges these dust gatherers into the classic MacBook Pros.

Recycling worthless scrap, excellent. That ought to keep Green Peace quiet for a few weeks.

I really hope this is just a rumor. My main hobby is writing and I traded up my MacBook to a MacBook Pro only 1 month after I bought it on account of the keyboard. The MBP keyboard is awesome for typing, with its concave keys and standard spacing. The MB KB and new Aluminum KBs are great for general use, but for writing they cause me no end of trouble.

Jun 23, 08 - 11:51 pm Comment from: shen

oh look everyone! crash has found a new laugh sounding nick name!

i won't both asking you the obvious, since we all know you pull your "facts" from your ass.....

Jun 24, 08 - 12:08 am Comment from: R2

I'd like a 12" MacBook.

Jun 24, 08 - 12:12 am Comment from: Daner

Looking forward to the system upgrade + BT keyboard/trackpad combo that will allow all Macs to get in on the MultiTouch goodness.

Jun 24, 08 - 12:52 am Comment from: Ho, ho.

Hey, look! I've got a new Macbook Pro with the new keyboard!

The screen still looks like crap.

It's got a new keyboard.

But the screen still loooks like crap.

It's got Sno' Leopard, too.

And the screen still look like crap.

Apple, same crap inside, new crap outside.

And I thought I had a dirty mind. You all need help. Or at least a liquid proof key board and track pad.

Jun 24, 08 - 07:41 am Comment from: Ho, ho.

Brian,

Thankfully, you can purchase one of several third party keyboards. That shouldn't cost too much, although carrying around you keyboard will diminish the portability of your notebook. Maybe someone will invent caps that fit over the keys that provide the concave feature you want.

Jun 24, 08 - 08:13 am Comment from: Zorpo

Would Apple really update the MacBook in the middle of the back to school promo?

I mean, I hope they DO, because I'm one of those back to school types (MBA!) and I really really want to get the most updated one possible...

Jun 24, 08 - 08:14 am Comment from: krautpastry

Oh please god no. The Mac Book Pro's keyboard is the best laptop keyboard I've ever used. The Air and MacBook's sucks. PLEASE don't do this.

Give me a damn mini tower or upgraded Mini with better video.

Jun 24, 08 - 10:28 am Comment from: ken

I prefer the keyboard on my PowerBook - which is the same as the MBP. Better than on my MB.

If they want to make the most important design change needed on the MBP they will add mag latch. The current latching design is "elegant", but I need to get the third latch for my PB. That was the main reasons why I went with a MB on the last purchase.

Jun 24, 08 - 10:42 am Comment from: macman

I also prefer the current MacBook Pro's keyboard. The current MBP is pretty much perfect, any changes made going forward will mostly be aesthetic at this point.

Jun 24, 08 - 02:18 pm Comment from: Air trackpad is great

The button's in a different place and size, but not better or worse just different. It's easy to hit, but if you have habits from a different trackpad obviously you will notice this at first. Same would be true if you were used to an Air and moved to a Pro. Whatever your habits are, you'll like that better than something different--for a time.

2 things:
1 - the new style keyboards on the MBA and iMacs look nice but the current MBPro keyboards are better for typing so I'll be slightly disappointed to see them go as I've been holding out on buying for the new revised models.

2 - is there any way to get rid of or block this a-hole 'Ho,ho'? The fuckers more annoying than piles!

Let us know if you find a way.

Ampar, Ampar, Ampar,

How hypocritical of you not to chasten the child for use of profanity. Doesn't this rude display of puerile behavior violate the Prime Directive for public discourse? Of course, it does! You know, the one you claim is the First Commandment of posting at MDN.

This is just another example of how pathetically biased and sanctimonious you are, Amp. Perhaps you will slowly begin to understand why I hold you in such contempt.

Oh, you too, SN.

Jun 25, 08 - 11:23 am Comment from: Ampar

"chasten the child"

WTF? Yes, I'm biased and you're still a pompous ass. Pretend to hold me all you want, you freak.
