“A worker at a Taiwanese case manufacturer posting to one of the Taiwan’s largest technology forums claims (link withheld to protect identity) that his unnamed employer has just this week received orders to produce enclosures for new MacBook systems,” Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.
“Having signed a non-disclosure agreement with Apple, the worker was hesitant to respond to questions on the matter from fellow members of the discussion forum, but did initially let slip that the order was for traditional aluminum-colored casings only,” Malley reports.
“The report appears to corroborate AppleInsider’s source information on the subject, echoing assertions that white cases will disappear from the MacBook lineup, replaced instead by a silver, anodized aluminum enclosures reminiscent of those used in the MacBook Air and latest iMacs,” Malley reports.

the only thing i could possibly ask for in a macbook update is discrete graphics. even a geforce 8400 would be better than intel gma. i’ll sell my gma950 macbook in a heartbeat if they offer that! but if they’re gonna through in a cool aluminum enclosure too (i see it looking kinda like the new imacs) then that would be sweet as well. =)

Question for the materials engineers out there: What is the problem using carbon fiber layups for notebook cases? In the cycling world just about anything structural on a bike can be done in carbon fiber. Is it just too expensive? Not durable enough? Not strong in thin, flat sheets? Some electrical conductivity issue? Please enlighten us.
This is a logical upgrade to the existing MB line.
An aluminum MB would eliminate the issues of plastic discoloration and skin oils damaging the inside palm rests.
Perhaps it’s time for me to hand down a MB to my kids and upgrade.

My mother – who knows next to nothing regarding technology – just the other day saw a iMac in person and asked if it was from Apple – or some company that her son likes. The clerk responded that is was indeed an Apple computer.
She told me that she like it but didn’t “see the part the goes underneath the desk”. I mentioned to her that the whole computer, everything is behind the screen. That explains why the screen looked thick she said.
She said that she really liked it. I mentioned that new ones do not come in white but silver and are faster. She was extremely disappointed and even suggested that if I had one, she’d take my white computer and I could get a new silver one. (I only have a Macbook and a PowerMac.)
She was happy to hear that the notebooks still came in white and that she will get one when she retires in a few years.
Hmm… maybe if I hold on to my white Macbook until she retires, she can have it and I can get one of those new silver ones or whatever color they happen to be in a few years.
