“Apple has become the fourth biggest laptop manufacturer in the US – even as strong rumours predict the company will refresh its laptop range at a special event on October 14,” Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.
“Daring Fireball’s John Gruber last night claimed an insider source had let him know to expect the company’s new range of Mac laptops will be introduced at a special event on October 14,” Evans reports.
“Speaking of Macs, contrary to speculation, there were no announcements regarding new Mac notebooks. Such speculation was misguided; Apple has held an iPod/music special event in September or October every year since 2001, and, to my knowledge, has never once used such events to announce new Mac hardware. Those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple’s hardware plans.”
More in the full article, including rumors of a Mac mini upgrade, here.
I would love a new Macboob
lol…Book that is..sorry
Okay. new MacBooks and, one would assume, MacBook Pros and maybe a speed-bump for the MacBook Air. There are new 1.8″ 240GB 4200 rpm hard drives available, too.
What about the Mac mini? I know a few people who are dying to hear about an upgrade, which is LONG overdue!
here comes wireless power.
I would love a new Mac mini boob
I wanna touch the macboobs…
But I’ll settle for a tablet!
macboob. with a single button.
Finally, my new iMac (if they upgrade the MacBooks, they must upgrade iMacs). I hope they have the new Quicktime co-processor from PA Semi.
“Macboob”
Tits a shame if they’re thinking of integrating a nipple mouse. Those things are a bit creepy but this market could be a treasure chest if they stay abreast of consumer needs. They could milk this for awhile.
screw it – Nick wins
From the Article: “It also reveals that Macs are being purchased as second or third computers in many US homes.”
This is huge. Once everyone in the house starts wanting time with the Mac and shunning the Windows machines, the family won’t buy another Windows PC… they’ll buy another Mac!
That string of puns was almost Ampar-esque…
IMacs will have to wait until MacWorld. For them, a year and a half is a reasonable refresh cycle, and alu-iMacs arrived in August of last year. As for the Mini, it’s a step-child. Whether it will see any changes is a big question. The way it’s treated, they may just announce a refresh online, without a special event.
“That string of puns was almost Ampar-esque…”
I’ll be sure to tell Nick to try harder when I see him again.

Suck it and see!
Steve Jobs doesn’t like the Mac mini… we will never see any major upgrades for the Mac mini. If they do ever get refreshed at all, they will be very minor upgrades that will be silently upgraded on Apple’s website.
I’d rather have a Macboob Pro with its nice Multi-Touch™ pad.
BTW, Macboobs must be implanted since they’re all filled with silicon?
Ampar, long time no see….
Too busy working the boobs?
“Daring Fireball’s John Gruber last night claimed an insider source had let him know…”
Daring Fireball? John Gruber? His inside source?
So….this is a credible rumor. I see.
To Luc Scholte van Mast:
It’s been tit for tat. I’ve been enjoying the cleave between opposing views on this site. Some of them are udderly ridiculous but they do bring back some great mammaries of the past.
Now, that’s the real thing. Always clearly recognisable! And so effortless!
Apple may have missed the back-to-school boat by delaying the intro of new MacBooKs until so late. But, there’s another season hard on that one’s heels, one with a larger target audience. Why should “Dad” buy his “son” a newer computer than his own when he can buy it for “Mom” instead – then “share” it.
Sorry … my wife just kicked me off her AluMac and I’m moping on my G5. <sigh> 🙁
What, no combination Macboob / MacDork pun?
OK Ampar, “next time you seen Nick”, yeah I get it, wink wink, nudge nudge, (going for a comma usage record here) you guys are two different people and all that, you know, secret-type clandestine, undercover, Burn Notice™, Clancey, Ludlum, Le Caré-esque, Mission Impossible in the chat room, just-who-is-this-really thing.
call me
if you’ve seen one Nick you’ve see ’em all…

Note to self, iPhone does not always pick up misspellings. Apparently “Macboob” is a word in the iPhone dictionary.
“Burn Notice™”
When I first read that, I thought it said Bum Notice™. Now that’s an idea for a show!
” Apparently “Macboob” is a word in the iPhone dictionary.”
I think it refers to this guy.
Nick Fury: oooh BURN!
If I had better material I’d use it.
C’mon guys.
No-one’s asked about the new MacBook Areola ??!!
It’s not Macboob. It’s iTit.
A pair of breasts with integrated speakers. Why? Because women everywhere say men simply don’t listen to them. This should be a widespread best seller
It seems to me that ever since Apple’s switch to Intel, Apple has remained about six months to a year behind the rest of the computer industry in terms of hardware. HP and others are offering computers with faster RAM, better processors, plus newer & more powerful graphics — at less cost than Apple machines in the same class.
Yes, Mac OS X is a great operating system. But does the greatness of OS X outweigh the mediocrity of Apple hardware? For the basic computer user, Apple hardware is fine. But for many advanced/demanding computer users, Apple hardware simply isn’t good enough.
I read that there is top secret government research being conducted on combining nanotechnology and silicone breast implants. The enhancements are then used to hypnotize and interrogate enemy combatants and it’s getting plenty of support.
The test facility is located somewhere within Areola 51.
Ampar is back!. A suckle for pun-ishment.
@ Nick Fury.
Does the government have D-cup-a-bility?
Yes, but it’s a stretch. Of course, they’ve never had culpability. And for some weird reason they’ve got everything on floppies. It’s a top secrete issue.
(“A suckle for pun-ishment.” Nice!)
