RUMOR: Apple’s iPhone 3.0 to offer multitasking and ‘Copy and Paste’
Monday, March 16, 2009 - 08:58 AM EST

Apple's iPhone 3.0 may include multitasking and "Copy and Paste" ability.

"In a live episode of Diggnation recorded at Austin's South by Southwest festival, Digg founder and show co-host Kevin Rose claimed to have "confirmation" that the feature would be a centerpiece of the new iPhone OS to be unveiled on Tuesday," Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.

"To select text, he said, users would double-tap on a word to bring up the iPhone's magnifying glass and then extend the "'quotes' to cover the necessary text and perform the relevant action, though it's not known whether this would be limited to copying and pasting or would include cutting text outright," Malley reports. "Rose [also] made mention of 'multitasking' before being interrupted during the segment... However, he also dampened hopes for video capture, explicitly warning that it wouldn't be part of the feature set for 3.0."

The general chaos of the video clip kinda reminds me of Digg itself!

Maybe it won't have video recording in terms of an update that enables it on older iPhones, but the actual 3rdGen iPhone itself not having a new camera with video recording? I find that hard to believe.

Perhaps the signals got crossed when he received this info.

I'd call him a loser but he makes too damn much money playing a drunken fratboy to be called a loser.

ummm.... when was the last time this guy's iPhone prognostications were right?

About a month or so prior to the release of the original iPhone, Kevin Rose claimed it would have two batteries, a slide out keyboard and a touch screen. He only got one of those right and he said nothing about "multi-touch".

I'm not sure that he's remotely believable. He's just making wild claims and hoping some of them stick.

ignore the churning of the rumor mill

Mar 16, 09 - 08:42 am Comment from: But, but...

Actually, according to World of Apple, Kevin Rose is saying there will NOT be multitasking or background applications on the new iPhone OS 3.0.

Who the fsck cares what Kevin Rose has to say, about anything? Really.

...explicitly warning that it wouldn't be part of the feature set for 3.0.

What are you, an Apple engineer? Seriously, why do people take this garbage seriously? It's not news people! It's some dink predicting the future. Wow.

I like how these guys always say the new iPhone MAY have a new feature.

Way to commit. wink

If there's no f'in copy/paste in v 3.0, I'm STILL not going to upgrade to a 3G phone.
