RUMOR: Apple’s new iPod nano photo leaked, iTunes 8 imminent?
Monday, August 25, 2008 - 08:22 AM EST

Has Kevin Rose done it again? (Sometimes he gets it close, sometimes he doesn't.)

Rose, founder and site architect of Digg, and a co-founder at Revision3 and Pownce,' is claiming to be spilling the beans about Apple's next-gen iPod nano (see image to left, click for larger image), significant iPod price cuts, Mac OS X, iTunes 8.8, and more, including Mac OS X 10.5.6 which may add official support for Blu-ray drives and playback.

According to Rose, a revamp of the entire iPod line, iPhone, iPod touch software 2.1, new iPod pricing, iTunes 8.0, and more are all coming within 2-3 weeks.

Kevin Rose dishes Apple rumors:

Daniel Eran Dilger writes for RoughlyDrafted, "Kevin Rose has been trying his hand at making broad sweeping generalizations about the next generation of iPods, but sorry, no digg. Most of his predictions are not even original, and those that are are so vague that they’re really just worthless. Here’s what you can really expect."

"Rose likes to suggest what’s next from Apple, but his guesses only approach reality when they’re based on leaks that occur days prior to an announcement. His flat out guesswork tends to be yet far further removed from reality, indicating that he has no special inside track on things at Apple, nor much of an imagination tempered by realistic appraisal," Dilger writes.

We'll know Rose is onto something if we see his body riddled with Shuriken.

I vote for Photoshop, and not a very good rendition.

What about the new macbooks?

Aug 25, 08 - 08:04 am Comment from: Mike T.

Why would Apple even go back to the tall skinny form factor... Errrrrr, wrong answer, but thank you for playing!

Aug 25, 08 - 08:08 am Comment from: Ed

this is BS. I got the real info from my buddy in sacto. Apple is coming out with the ipod touch nano. The days of the scroll wheels are over. Anybody who believes that pic is a fool

Aug 25, 08 - 08:11 am Comment from: ElderNorm

Actually I liked the tall skinny factor. My first gen nano is still working fine and I like the feel of it in my hand. It is easy to use too. A bigger screen would be nice but I do not see the lack of Apples connector on the bottom. How would this unit work in any of the standard Apple third party units???

Just a thought.

Daniel Eran Dilger at Roughly Drafted took Mr. Rose out back and did a number on him:

"I vote for Photoshop, and not a very good rendition."

That's what everyone always says. Moon landings: Photoshop. JFK assassination: Photoshop. Bigfoot:Photoshop.

Aug 25, 08 - 08:36 am Comment from: Randian

What's with all the constant complaining about unwanted pop-ups here? I've never seen ONE . . . ever! Is Webkit/Safari THAT far ahead of other browsers when it comes to blocking these little irritants?

Aug 25, 08 - 08:46 am Comment from: Steve516

It's all a giant conspiracy... if you don't understand, then you might as well get a Zune.

Aug 25, 08 - 08:47 am Comment from: MikeR

@Macromancer
It's just that Photoshop is the best at what it does. It doesn't come off as well is you were to say it's been Apertured.

Aug 25, 08 - 08:50 am Comment from: Bluefin

I knew Photoshop, and frankly sir, you're no Photoshop!

Look at the source and you question it's authenticity? You betcha!

Photoshop has become a generic term, like PC or kleenex or Q-tip. (Funny how my 3 examples are all disposable items.) Hey, Photoshop has even reached verb status.

So, have the black turtlenecked Apple shock troopers take Kevin out, yet?

Aug 25, 08 - 09:32 am Comment from: Q

Digg is owned by Micros**t.

∴ KR is owned by Micros**t.

∴ KR's opinion is suspect.

what pop-up? i think you should start using firefox 3.

Aug 25, 08 - 09:52 am Comment from: DLMeyer

Yeah ... Ed just woke me up. It isn't so much that "The days of the scroll wheels are over" so much as The Days of Physical Controls are Over. The new nano, when it appears, will visually resemble a smaller iPod touch. It will certainly have a scroll wheel ... which you activate by touching the screen.
Do I have special access to Apple? "Yeah ... R i g h t !" But, there are things Apple does that are "new" and things Apple does that are merely "newer". The updates are generally easier to predict, given the direction they've been traveling. They've been traveling in the direction of the touch screen for a year now, no secret there. The only way to shrink the nano without shrinking the screen is to remove the "physical" wheel.

Digg and the rest of Kevin Rose's creates all really suck so he has to dream up stuff from other companies. How about you focus on making some interesting sites on the Internet Kevin and stop trying to play off you are "someone" in this industry, when in reality you suck, just like you sucked on TechTV before you lost that gig too.

MDN magic word: analysis

i.e.: My analysis of Kevin Rose's predictions is that his he full of sh**.

kevin rose is hot.

Aug 25, 08 - 11:43 am Comment from: fenman

Personally I think the next generation iPod Nano will look something like a half size iPod Touch, predominately all screen with just a few buttons, a touch screen interface and compatible with the iPhone 2.0 API for applications.

Aug 25, 08 - 07:35 pm Comment from: What a mania for spilling the beans

Really, if anything, it only hurts Apple. Not good at all.

In what way is he helping or what does he feel by doing it?

Any one?

I'm still waiting for my iPhone with a slide-out keyboard.
