RUMOR: Apple’s next iPod nano to get camera; three new iPhones on the way
Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - 08:54 PM EDT

"You know that we don’t run future iPod stories without having a lot of faith in the information. Thus far, our source has a perfect track record for accuracy. Based on the information we’ve received, this is what the fifth-generation iPod nano will look like, compared with its fourth-generation predecessor," Jeremy Horwitz reports for iLounge.

"The screen gets widened to a 1.5:1 aspect ratio, but still retains the Click Wheel of all prior nano models—in other words, no touchscreen controls this year for the iPod nano. The Click Wheel shifts down further on the new nano’s body, shrinks a little, and sees the size of the center Action button decrease as well. Finally, there’s a camera on the back," Horwitz reports.

"Also of interest: we’ve been told that the next-generation iPhone will come in six versions: two storage capacities each for 3G, enhanced 3G ("3.5G/3.75G"), and mainland China versions of the phone, which will have the same size and general design of the current model, but with a less scratchable matte plastic body," Horwitz reports.

I smell BS

I can't see a camera being placed on a nano. Doesn't make much sense.

I think it is real enough, because if it was BS, the camera would have been in a better location. That spot was probably used because that is the best spot possible, where there is internal space to put the camera; behind the display is too cramped and directly behind the click wheel is too cramped.

The pictures are actually fake by definition, because it clear says it is an "artist's rendition" (that is based on the leaked information).

well this is a rumor site, bullsh!t rumor at that

To be honest, I expected the stretched, wider aspect ratio display on the previous version. I suppose that I am ahead of my time. It's tough to be a paradox.

Better be a camera on the iPod touch as well.

Since Apple incrementally add on features to their products this seems feasible to me. Cost is minimal and it works well with the teen crowd who like to take fun shots. My daughter (13) took 100 pictures whilst we drove back from taking the dogs for a walk. It could also work as a way to get them to use iPhoto and the associated services.

Ahh yes! Of course! The iPhone will follow the iPod trend and we'll soon see an iPhone Shuffle, complete with no visible interface and just a phone control on the headset cord. Next up will be the iPhone Nano with a 1.5" screen and a click wheel. Finally we'll see a really big iPhone with foldout legs so it can be used as a table.

It all makes perfect sense!

Not!

Like the concept, not the color. A couple of years back it was reported (here?) that Apple was hiring imaging specialists. A nice simple camera is all that's needed for most things, when coupled with software and an HI that doesn't suck.

silverhawk,
Why doesn't it make sense?

MaximumOverdrive,
At first I too thought the camera was in a bad spot, but if you visualize how you will take pictures it's actually in the right spot.

Because it's a Nano, not a touch. The Nano is a $149 or $199 music player. It doesn't really do much else.
