RUMOR: BBC shows coming to Apple’s iTunes Store this week
Monday, February 18, 2008 - 10:32 AM EST

"The BBC's commercial arm is expected to announce a deal to distribute shows via the iTunes video store [this] week," Chris Williams reports for The Register.

"A TV industry source claims BBC Worldwide will on Tuesday detail plans to set up shop at Apple's online media mall. Our source says BBC Worldwide's digital media director Simon Danker has contacted the BBC's third party production partners to inform them of the new distribution channel," Williams reports.

"It's unclear whether the BBC content will be available internationally," Williams reports.

I'd pay for Top Gear in HD flat out :-D

Feb 18, 08 - 11:06 am Comment from: CheekyGit

I have all of the Top Gear episodes on dvds. Took me forever and a day to get them via BT.

I still watch Top Gear when they come out on BBC America but they edit most the best parts like the news and any funny comments before and after they show their video clips.

Also, when they them on BBC America, the so-called "new episodes" are at 2 seasons behind. AARRGGGHHH!!!

Feels good to have the real thing tucked away in my dvd case.

"I'd pay for Fawlty Towers."

I have paid for Farty Towels for years.
Mainly by using anecdotal quotes that caused recipients to reply with a blank stare with a hint of a "is he off his meds again" concern in their eyes....and DON"T mention the war!

Top Gear is one of the best shows on TV.

Feb 18, 08 - 11:31 am Comment from: Thomas

AbFab and Black Adder would be mint. Would be awesome to get old stuff from the 80s like The Young Ones or the Kenny Everett Show. Aaw, I forgot Brideshead.

Feb 18, 08 - 11:34 am Comment from: NavyTim

Little Britain!!!

Feb 18, 08 - 12:25 pm Comment from: -a-day

About bloomin' time! This suggestion has been made to the BCC over and over again.

There's a whole world of revenue waiting to be tapped. But in the UK that won't involve us paying less to the BBC for our TV licenses. The little shits are in charge.

Feb 18, 08 - 12:59 pm Comment from: Ampar

I need to learn how to walk funny all over again.

Feb 18, 08 - 01:09 pm Comment from: John B

How about Trailer Park Boys? I know it's not a BBC production, but they did run it on BBC America for a while.

Feb 18, 08 - 01:24 pm Comment from: flappo

bottom and the goodies !

Feb 18, 08 - 01:37 pm Comment from: Swing Geezer

Top Gear!!!!!! The very best automobile related TV program ever in history. I can't believe that Speed Channel hasn't figured it out. Except that it would show up every single program on their station as true rubbish.
5th Gear was/is good too!!!

Just my opinion - but it is fact!

Feb 18, 08 - 02:09 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

I've already got every Monty Python EVERYTHING on DVD and Fawlty Towers, too.

What else is there?
3 decades of Dr. Who? HAH.
Black Adder? Maybe.
Brit-coms? Spare me the agony.

Put any POS on PBS and just because the actors have British accents, it suddenly becomes "high art".

I don't think so. I call that Masterpiece Theatre Syndrome.

Feb 18, 08 - 02:19 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

What about The Goon Show?

I'd pay for that!

Feb 18, 08 - 02:45 pm Comment from: Stuart

Don't forget Sticky Moments with Julian Clary and Fanny the Wonder Dog!

Feb 18, 08 - 03:02 pm Comment from: Boton Candy

@Mr. Reeee
So, the only worthwhile shows that the British have to offer are Monty Python & Fawlty Towers?
I call that Myopic PBS Snob syndrome.

Feb 18, 08 - 03:13 pm Comment from: ken1w

So I guess making their "iPlayer" available for Mac users is now less relevant. Actually, it was mostly irrelevant to being with...

Feb 18, 08 - 04:31 pm Comment from: F1Mikal

Spooks PLEASE!
With the original name not the loser pc name for the americans.

Bring on SPOOKS!

And... Match of the Day for those who know what proper football is.

Feb 18, 08 - 05:41 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

@Boton Candy

Actually, I don't watch much TV.

Some movies (IFC, Sundance, TCM), NHL (Rangers & Devils) games, Jon Stewart & Colbert Report... that's about it. Discovery HD channel's Sunrise Earth is the perfect space out program, though.

Otherwise, I watch NO network shows... American Network TV is a wasteland.
I don't watch PBS, either. Honest.

Feb 18, 08 - 06:40 pm Comment from: Boton Candy

@Reeee
Please protect me from the elitist snob list of the very few shows that you watch, that prove your intellectual superiority to the rest of us. I'm not impressed.
I couldn't give a rats a$$ how few, or many shows you watch.

Though, if you're not watching anything on PBS - how can you possibly judge if it's any good or not?

As to the BBC - I'd love for them to put Chef! or Murder Most Horrid online. I loved those shows!
