Has it got an AM radio and directions to the nearest swap meet?

May 12, 09 - 03:50 pm Comment from: Jay-Z

Mary Jo Foley makes Enderle look like Einstein.

May 12, 09 - 03:53 pm Comment from: Jubei

@Roberto

No, but you get an optional 50 foot string, that you can attach to an optional MS Approved Tin Can. You can then share it with your friend and you can squirt your conversations to each other as long as you remember to keep that MS Approved String taunt from each other.

May 12, 09 - 03:55 pm Comment from: Cubert

Roberto,
No AM radio but there is a hand-crank ham radio.

May 12, 09 - 03:59 pm Comment from: mark

Windows Mobile 7 isn't due until next year (2010), right? By that time, a new phone with these specs will be underwhelming.

Since these specs are likely to met by many phones released between now and September, this is likely the minimum spec to be able to upgrade and run Windows Mobile 7.

May 12, 09 - 04:12 pm Comment from: Macaday

A wish list?

May 12, 09 - 04:16 pm Comment from: alsoran

m$ is still pretty fond of that FM radio aren't they. Well, maybe not quite so fond since they now only offer it as an option.

May 12, 09 - 04:20 pm Comment from: Jim

OpenGL ES 2.0 is sorely missing in the present iPhone OS spec. I'm sure I speak for many in the OpenGL ES world when I write that.

May 12, 09 - 04:22 pm Comment from: Macintosher

I could have written that spec on a shopping list pad.

May 12, 09 - 04:25 pm Comment from: Your Mom Bluray

Pink, the new brown.

May 12, 09 - 04:27 pm Comment from: dave

Classic FUD. Don't buy any of the new models the competition is going to put out next month, because OUR product will crush them with how good it is.

And please ignore all history press releases such as this, because this time, it's real. Really. Trust us. This time, it's a sure thing. We're really going to come through. This new phone will make everybody else's phones look like toys in comparison.

May 12, 09 - 04:41 pm Comment from: Zune Tang®

Awesome! I declare the I-Phone officially dead based on these specs. Once released consumers will finally have choice among innovative, quality hardware designs—and Windows Mobile 7 is the magnificent icing on the cake!

Thank you Microsoft and your partners liberating mobile phone users from the dark ages of I-Phone mania. I feel sorry for the pretentious MAC sheep who will be stuck with contracts for an outdated Windows Mobile wannabe dud.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Guys! The puck is over here now. Stop running to where it was!

May 12, 09 - 04:47 pm Comment from: Gosh

Quite frankly it could be jet powered too but if you can't go and buy one tomorrow it just imagination!

May 12, 09 - 04:50 pm Comment from: Billy Bob Gaits

Wow it's a Zune phone complete with an AM radio so all the demented Ditto heads can listen in to their hero, the zero druggie Limbagh.

"list of what may or may not be the final specs for the Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1"

Jeez, what a dumb ass thing to write.

May 12, 09 - 05:15 pm Comment from: Snow Leopard

As an MS-hater, I have to admit, the hardware specs sound very, very good. 3rd Gen iPhone should be designed to beat this in hardware (not just equal it).

We all know the iPhone OS + App Store kicks Win 7 Mobile + Zune Marketplace's butt.

May 12, 09 - 05:16 pm Comment from: ralph from berlin

and THAT'S why aapl is down 4% today? another "leak" from the kingdom of vaporware? wall street is really a stupid bunch of *******

I was always fond of Dr. Demento.........................

May 12, 09 - 05:27 pm Comment from: Randian

. . . and it "might" . . . and it "may or may not" . . . and it "could" . . . and it "should" . . . and "perhaps" . . . and "possibly" . . . and . . . and . . . and . . .

What a heap of steaming crap from Mary Jo Foley! By the time the "Phune" hits the shelves (IF it exists, and IF it ever ships), the REAL iPhone will be in its next generation.

Now let's see: Generation IV iPhone vs. Generation I Phune. Hmmm. Given Microsoft's sterling record in the past with WinME, Vista, xBox, Zune, and the like, which product would YOU buy?

May 12, 09 - 05:31 pm Comment from: Spark

I have to agree that this smells like classic MS vapor. Foley's a shill. Gee, just in time for the imminent iPhone + iPhone OS 3 release... perfect. Well, it certainly won't dampen my excitement for the new iPhone.

May 12, 09 - 05:42 pm Comment from: Bush Rush

Wow it's a Zune phone complete with an AM radio so all the demented Ditto heads can listen in to their hero, the zero druggie Keith Obermann.

There, fixed that for you.

May 12, 09 - 05:42 pm Comment from: Road Warrior

Awesome Zuney! Since none of your declarations have ever come to pass I am sure that iPhone will be doing fine. I mean you did do the same pretentious crap about the Zune years ago. It hasn't even come close to being true, and you certainly haven't rectified that.

Then again, you are a liar and a yellow bellied coward. I am sure you will look pretty in pink.

I can see you are chanting to the MS "will be" Elmer FUD tune, but hey right now you are a pretentious Zune user and will be for many years to come.

May 12, 09 - 05:57 pm Comment from: NCMacMan

"You...have a Zune???"

Chuck said it best.

By the way, I'm sure Apple will not stand for any Microsoft product that advertises itself as "Multi-Touch" as it is a trademarked term.

May 12, 09 - 05:59 pm Comment from: benchmark

Who did Apple compare themselves to when they designed the iPhone? Who did Apple wannabe or aim to kill?

MS can't even ASPIRE to be at Apple's level. Why do they even try anymore?

WM7 Chassis 1 Specification

Everyone, re-read through the spec carefully. What good is a spec when most of it is...optional?!?

This is gonna be a feature morass that'll make buying a Vista PC look downright simple!

May 12, 09 - 06:13 pm Comment from: @confused

"What good is a spec when most of it is...optional?!?"

Perfect spec for vaporware. Making an actual phone is optional.

May 12, 09 - 06:17 pm Comment from: ripper

I'm certainly impressed! </sarcasm> A bunch of specs. Nice. Now, when can I go out and actually buy one of these beasts?

That's what I thought.

Will all the MS fans with their present WinMo smartphones be able to run Windows 7 mobile?

Or will they just be left in the closet of those who trusted MS to have an upgrade path?

ZT is a comedian. And if you stop taking him seriously, he's actually pretty funny. So stop taking him seriously. You might get a good chuckle or two.

May 12, 09 - 08:00 pm Comment from: Bloomster

So much for all of Microsoft's statements that they would never enter the cellphone market. I wonder how all Microsoft's partners feel about this, if it ever really happens? Betrayed yet again?

May 12, 09 - 09:18 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

ZT... you're twitter page is freaking hilarious!

May 12, 09 - 09:33 pm Comment from: Barf

So will Microsoft manufacture this, or are these specs for other manufacturers? I was very underwhelmed by the next-gen Windows Mobile demo in Spain earlier this year. And this time, Microsoft et al will enter a crowded market. Apple already has a considerable jump on Microsoft, as does Google, which offers Android to handset makers for free. Palm is taking a bold bet the farm step, putting it all on red with the Pre. Then there's Symbian, well entrenched in Europe.

So for the Mary Jo Foleys of this world, it's not the usual slam-dunk.

Apple has a very large and growing user base, and increasing adoption by the corporate world. The iPhone is regarded as the device to beat, and coupled with the iTunes Store (and the App Store within it, and a base of thousands of the most highly regarded apps, Apple is in a very defensible position. In addition, with acquisition of PA Semi, Apple can create its own hardware using specs not available to any competing platform.

Obviously, Apple has anticipated this move by Microsoft and will fight to keep and grow its global market share.

That said, expect to hear the usual FUD from the Microsoft PR machine, as they trot out the usual caravan of hack journalists and analysts on the Microsoft payroll. But if Steve Ballmer thinks its the usual "roll out the crap and the lackeys will follow", he is in for yet another rude surprise.

Yes, the market will become more crowded and competitive. But I am confident that Apple will stand its ground and then some. It's not just hardware specs. It's the operating system, the archipelago of available apps, the best music and app store around, and by far the best user experience available in mobile computing.

So, bring it fat man. Bring it. We'll kick your butt any day of the week.

iPhone killer!

just like the Zune was supposed to be the ipod killer. Remember they launched the Zune with a 100 million ad campaign 'Welcome to the Social' aka the Squirt Extravaganza?

years later hundreds of millions spent (100 million loses estimated for the January 2009 quarter alone) and PC Advisor says "Zune heading to Zero Market-share'.

PC advisor Jan 2009:
"iPod killer status fades rapidly.
"The Wall Street Journal predicts that "at its much faster rate of decline, the Zune player looks like it's headed from low to no market share""

only way anything Msft. makes will 'kill' the iPhone is that iPhone dies laughing.

lol!

May 13, 09 - 02:19 am Comment from: \ln

seems a bit vague.

May 13, 09 - 05:22 am Comment from: Road Warrior

@Crabs

Who said I was taking him seriously? After all he said the same thing about the demise of the iPod when the Zune came out. It did not come to frutition so I called him a liar. Not only is that hilariously funny it is the truth.

Now calling him a coward, well that's a bit of a stretch. See Zune Thang never really gets the chance to say that he is a comedian because of the bigger buffoons that come on and say that he is a comedian for him, and fight his battles for him, and tell other people what to do for him. They all sound so serious about it, but I am sure that they are quite often bigger clowns than he is and it just adds to the chuckles.

You may wish to consider contemplating the wise words of twilightmoon. After all I am a Canadian and we have some strange ideas, like loving peace and all that. Mind you we do export a lot of our comedians. Seems some countries are really lacking when it comes to a sense of humour. Of course that is just a suggestion, I would not be so arrogant as to tell you that you have to do listen to her or do as she says. That sort of interferes with free will.

Keep smiling, I most certainly am.

May 13, 09 - 06:12 am Comment from: Scott in Japan

A phone by MS could be a quad core xenon, 32GB RAM, 120MP camera, 1TB storage and it wouldn't matter! Why? It'll run on MS WinMo!

May 13, 09 - 07:06 am Comment from: sosumi

By the way, I'm sure Apple will not stand for any Microsoft product that advertises itself as "Multi-Touch" as it is a trademarked term.

When have things like legal protections ever stopped MS?

Expect MS to blatantly steal Multi-Touch. Sure they'll try to run around the trademark with by calling it "Multi-touch", but everyone knows the game.
