RUMOR: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger to arrive in April
Friday, March 11, 2005 - 09:12 PM EST

"Apple will officially announce Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger's release at an event in early April and will begin shipping the operating system within two or three weeks afterwards, Think Secret has learned. Apple has previously only stated that Tiger will ship during the first half of the 2005," Ryan Katz reports for ThinkSecret.

"The event, sources say, is currently scheduled for Friday, April 1 and will be delivered via satellite to numerous locations around the world. Unknown at this point is where the event will take place and whether the media or other outsiders will be invited to attend. Well placed sources say Tiger will likely be in stores by April 15," Katz reports.

Sure...someone passes along a big "tip" that the big event is planned for April 1 - (April Fools Day). Right!

Mar 11, 05 - 09:20 pm Comment from: username

ummmmmm, wait a sec, April Fools Day? I've got a hard time believing this.

Mar 11, 05 - 09:32 pm Comment from: macnut222

Someone on AppleInsider also pointed out that April 1 is Apple's Birthday.

Could this have something to do with Tiger's release? Who knows.

First Post?

I'll buy one. Maybe two.

Apple has made other announcements on April 1. I wouldn't discount it.

Mar 11, 05 - 09:55 pm Comment from: Jack A

OK, if this is true that will be one down. Now all I need is the upgrades to the PowerMac and I will get my New Machine.

Mar 11, 05 - 10:00 pm Comment from: cedreca

I already feel like one now! I sure hope it takes care of my iPod not mounting at all. But I still want Tiger anyway, even if it's a released a few days later!

Mar 11, 05 - 10:12 pm Comment from: Sol

Cedreca, your iPod may not be mounting for two reasons:

First, the port or cable you are using is faulty. Older Macs' FireWire ports lacked surge protection and sometimes this resulted in faulty ports.

Second, the iPod hard drive may have an index file that needs replacing. Do this by downloading the latest iPod Firmware and installing it into the iPod.

The time is just about right & I'm ready when Apple is.

Mar 11, 05 - 11:01 pm Comment from: AppleRules!!

April 1st? Apple is famous for doing nutty things.

One of the early Mac's cost $666, then there was another one I forgot what it was.

April 1st release for Tiger doesn't surprise me.

A good piece of advice is to clone your boot drive before updating, this way if it breaks at least you can boot from the 10.3.9 OS on a external drive and wipe Tiger off and reverse clone.

is this an apple?

Mar 11, 05 - 11:23 pm Comment from: Double J

MDN already posted a story about that a few days ago. It's just Luxpro's blatant rip-off of the iPod shuffle

LOL!

anyone believe this???

I reckon they will release it before june - but not april 1st.

Mar 12, 05 - 03:49 am Comment from: Jocko

Will 'Tiger' have iLife05?

Mar 12, 05 - 03:50 am Comment from: Solar Flare

Ken,

NO!

It is a blatant ripoff that Apple will be sueing in the near future.

Mar 12, 05 - 03:53 am Comment from: Would be great, but my bet:

Announced and "in manufacturing" in late June, shipping in July.

Mar 12, 05 - 04:04 am Comment from: Seahawk

Not only this is to be believed, this is highly probable.

International sites are receiving updated seeds with language updates (internationalization).

Usually this is not done till practically at the very end of the development process of a new release.

The Tiger is coming!

PS
brought by magic word "SERIOUS"

Announced April Fools day and available in the stores when your taxes are due day (April 15)....?
I doubt it.
Another one of these "fake" leaks by Apple to get more interest in the product which will be announced later.

Mar 12, 05 - 06:46 am Comment from: professor

With "news" like this comingo from Thinksecret (Stealsecrets), how many people are going to buy a Mac before April 15? Who is paying to Thiksecret to do this?

Mar 12, 05 - 10:57 am Comment from: Kcwookie

Don't forget one small thing, Amazon was taking order for delivery on the last day of March. This rumor is in keeping with that. I'm sure that Apple has a target date for the release of Tiger and has had it for a long time.

Releaseing Tiger during the first half of April would allow them to have quite a presence at NAB. After all don't forget what they released last year.

As soon as it out I'm buying a 15" PB and a 12 or 14" iBook fully dressed with every option available. Come on Apple.

Waiting for the new BIG sized PowerMacs!

Dual quad (or quad dual?) 3+Ghz Processors.

Humma Humma! Then I will have the Tiger by the Tail!
To quote Tony (the Tiger): "It´s GREEEEEEEEEEEEAT!!!"

Mar 12, 05 - 11:52 am Comment from: AI_Joe

If this is true, then I'm so ready for it. I got my new 15"PB and decked out Mac mini. Just say the word Apple.

Magic Word: "Although"... which is strangely ironic...

ThinkSecret: "Hot News: Awesome new operating system from Apple coming in April!! We can't wait! In other news, Apple is a bunch of evil corporate bastards and we will fight them to the Supreme Court!"

ThinkSecret, please fsck off.

It makes sense for Apple to announce Tiger and not make it available that same day. It would be a good way to build media hype as it forces MS Windows users to ask "Where's our Longhorn and will it be this good?".

Now would be a good time for Apple to make one of their witty commercials with white background, no dialog just music, showing some of Tiger's best features, and end it with the images Steve used in one of his presentations of a tiger on the prowl and a steer slowly grazing.

I am quite sure the folks at Pixar can make an awesome commercial for OS X.

Go Steve!

Why bother with mention of Longhorn? Probably 98% of Windows users have no idea what "Longhorn" means in relation to their PC. These are the same folks who double-click links on browser pages, and don't think Mac has any advantage because Windows is "the way it's supposed to work, right?"

I don't think that there could be truer words spoke. Most of those folks have no idea about that is going on in their world. Mac users are probably far more educated on Windblows then the PC know it alls.

I highly doubt that Wookie. Almost all mac users ive ever known can bearly use their own Mac, let alone operate a Windows PC.
