RUMOR: More new Apple stuff within days?
Friday, February 08, 2008 - 01:37 PM EDT

"Apple's already told us that it'll be unveiling the Software Development Kit (SDK) to open up the iPhone and iPod touch to third party apps sometime this month. Now it's starting to look like February 26 will be the day," Stuff.tv reports.

"Crafty Apple-watchers have spotted that the TV firm Apple uses for its launch announcements is hiring for a big event then – a telling clue that it might be the day," Stuff.tv reports.

"We're likely to see several apps to launch at the same time as the SDK, including moderately dull but useful support for Exchange and Lotus Notes... Since Apple's promised us a year of continuous announcements, we also reckon we could hear of an update to the MacBook Pro," Stuff.tv reports.

Hows' about that AppleTV update? Have we got a date for that yet?

I'm about to ditch cable TV...

Feb 08, 08 - 02:43 pm Comment from: anaknipedro

I highly doubt Apple would hire a film video crew for the unveiling of an SDK. Certainly Apple will be unveiling some product refreshes.

Feb 08, 08 - 02:48 pm Comment from: Wrong Again

So, is Apple the ONLY company they do work for and they just chill out the rest of the time? Isn't it possible that someone else could have hired them?

Feb 08, 08 - 02:52 pm Comment from: mike_in_helsinki

Here we go again ... beating the drum about a 3G iPhone as well. When will these asshats put a muzzle on their flapper and shut the fsck up about something they have absolutely no frigging clue about.

Feb 08, 08 - 02:53 pm Comment from: Tom Strong

Recycled news from other sources we've already read. Zzzzzzzzz

Feb 08, 08 - 02:55 pm Comment from: John B

It must be something important, like the miniPro™.

Feb 08, 08 - 02:59 pm Comment from: macman

I leave on vacation in about a week. I'd like to replace my old 867MHz PowerBook 12" before then. The MacBook Air was a letdown as a replacement for the coveted PowerBook 12".

Come on Steve, release the new MacBook Pros with multitouch next week and have them available right away.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:02 pm Comment from: macromancer

"It must be something important, like the miniPro™."

oxymoron

Feb 08, 08 - 03:06 pm Comment from: Steve

Hooray! On a separate note, I walked over to the Apple Store today. The Air is amazing, you have to hold it to believe it.

I also walked by the Nokia store to see their internet tablet, which is something I wish Apple would offer. The Nokia was OK, but nothing special, although the keyboard, albeit smaller than the iPhone's was somewhat easier to use with fingers. A lot of people already have phone contracts or carriers that they're happy with (ATT can't touch my deal with Sprint). I can't understand why Apple can't create an iPhone device without the phone, just a data plan. I'd be the first to buy it, and I don't think I'd be the last.

Cummon!!! new MBP's!!!

Feb 08, 08 - 03:09 pm Comment from: Zune Tang®

Yawn.

Anyone know when Microsoft's Zune updates are going to be announced?

Your potential. Our passion.™

Feb 08, 08 - 03:11 pm Comment from: Uh Oh

I certainly hope so, because this morning I woke up and thought, 'hey, there isn't enough crap already in the world. I wonder what Apple is up to'?

Feb 08, 08 - 03:11 pm Comment from: Sixvodkas

Steve,

Apple DID create an iPhone without the iPhone.
It's called the iPod Touch.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:14 pm Comment from: hmmm

They are announcing the triumphant return of da Woz.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:15 pm Comment from: Rob

Exchange client for iP? Cool!
I hate Exchange but I am forced to use it.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:23 pm Comment from: NeonRed

Zune updates?

Whatever for?
Nice one ZT... i was in need of a chuckle this morning!

Feb 08, 08 - 03:24 pm Comment from: barks

Their announcing Apple has purchased Microsoft for $44.6 billion in cash and stocks and will discontinue Vista and XP, then will license OS X to all pc vendors.

Ballmer to head up janitorial services.

"When will these asshats put a muzzle on their flapper and shut the fsck up about something they have absolutely no frigging clue about."

A few trillionths of a second before this.

Isn't the iMac about due for an update?

Feb 08, 08 - 03:33 pm Comment from: Not Bill

Blue Ray drives?

Feb 08, 08 - 03:37 pm Comment from: Ampar

"Isn't the iMac about due for an update?"

Last iMac update was on August 7th, 2007: New iMac, new case with black bezel, low end 20" US$1199, low end 24" US$1,799.

Days since last iMac update = 186. The average is 185.

So, yes, it's possible.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:39 pm Comment from: ChrissyOne

@ Ampar

I've created flying pigs in the lab.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:44 pm Comment from: Ampar

You created Hooters Air?

Feb 08, 08 - 03:45 pm Comment from: I love glossy

I happened to check the FCC page today and Apple filed something that looks like a big ipod touch. I've never looked there before, so I'm not sure if it is news or not.

Feb 08, 08 - 03:46 pm Comment from: HueyLong

I'll take an AirPro for my next laptop please! You know it's gonna come, right...

Feb 08, 08 - 03:48 pm Comment from: Salvage

Hope this stuff is ready to go - panic is obvious in Cupertino in an effort to salvage AAPL. Won't work if this stuff won't work.

Besides, the only thing in this speculation that has any possibility of really helping is an update of MacBook Pro or, hopefully, any of the other Mac computers - most especially MacPro!

Feb 08, 08 - 03:52 pm Comment from: I love glossy

From what I mentioned before, It may also be Time Capsule that I saw....so maybe nevermind.

Feb 08, 08 - 04:05 pm Comment from: Ampar

A MacBook Pro update is possible.
The last release was June 5th, 2007.
Days since last MBP update = 249. The average is 186.

The Mac Pro was updated 32 days ago. The average is 217.
Not bloody likely.

Pig air would really sell!

Feb 08, 08 - 04:11 pm Comment from: iMaki

Yawn! The announcements better be better than that with tanking stock prices. Please remove all OBAMA banners from this site. This is technology, not politics!!!

Feb 08, 08 - 04:24 pm Comment from: Ampar

"Pig air would really sell!"

Down here in the South, we just call 'em pork rinds.

Feb 08, 08 - 04:28 pm Comment from: ron

A big fat-ass table touch thingy.

Feb 08, 08 - 04:39 pm Comment from: Salvage

@Ampar

Do you really consider what they did 32 days ago with MacPro was anything that anyone would notice the difference in from the model being updated?

I'm looking for speed, power, stability, reliability, and the ability to run Apple's own pro software without producing spinning beach balls or frozen screens. Damn.

Feb 08, 08 - 04:47 pm Comment from: Pete

"Anyone know when Microsoft's Zune updates are going to be announced?"

I didn't expect such a stupid question from you. We all know the Zune is so perfect, it doesn't need updates.

Feb 08, 08 - 05:01 pm Comment from: Gavron

Nobody, but nobody, mentions ACD's
and they're the longest 'un-updated' Apple product ... By far!

Feb 08, 08 - 05:04 pm Comment from: Ampar

Re: Mac Pro Update

Good point. The last significant update was April 4th, 2007. So yes, it's possible.

Feb 08, 08 - 05:46 pm Comment from: Jan and Dean

Amazing....Apple stock dropping like a rock and MDN starts pumping out the RUMORS of new products to counter the negative Apple reality...

Feb 08, 08 - 06:34 pm Comment from: iYann

hmmm, what's ACD ?

Feb 08, 08 - 06:43 pm Comment from: Grandpa

ACD = Apple Cinema Display

Feb 08, 08 - 06:46 pm Comment from: iYann

thanks papy!

Feb 08, 08 - 07:47 pm Comment from: Jubei

Special guest speaker is Bill Gates. Apple is reviving the Evangelist program and he's the first hire. You'll see him with jeans and the black mock turtleneck on stage along with Jobs. It's going to be exciting because a direct live feed via secret camera will be in Ballmers office with DD 5.1 piping through the new ATV updated device. Attendants will see Ballmer going ballistic and throwing chairs, tables and users all over the place. hehe

New HDMI interface for Audio/Video output.
Upgraded graphics for true HD capability.

Feb 09, 08 - 01:18 am Comment from: Afib

I'm betting on iTunes film rentals and no new hardware.

actually something will be coming. SDK is obvious. macbook pro update will be possible. special event seems to be focus on mac rather than iphone or other stuff. well, it's just my feeling.

Feb 09, 08 - 04:47 pm Comment from: Displays, Displays, Displays

Apple is going to, among other things, revise it's displays and computers with HDMI connections. Wonder why HD downloads for iTunes are restricted to the Apple TV. It's about DRM and copy protection. No way will Hollywood allow HD content out a regular DVI output. The new Macs with HDMI will be enabled for HD content and the old ones will not.

The 20" Cinema and iMac will also get a resolution bump to support native HD.

This is not the main event, just a part of the iTunes Rental Official Launch.

This is the year of HD at Cupertino.
