Rush Limbaugh’s on-air appeal to Apple CEO Steve Jobs [UPDATED 2:55pm EST]
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 11:49 AM EDT

Partial transcript from The Rush Limbaugh Show yesterday:

Rush: For those of you watching on the Dittocam today at RushLimbaugh.com, you've probably seen me pretty animated here during the break talking to the broadcast engineer and my trusty aide-de-camp and chief of staff, H.R. I didn't want to bring this up. I hadn't thought I was gonna bring it up. You know, I'm a big Mac guy. I love Macs, and I've got four Mac Pros. They're the top-of-the-line Mac Pros, maxed out. And they just had a new system upgrade, went to 10.5 Leopard, and they've had two upgrades since October. Yesterday brought 10.5.2, which was loaded. It was a big, big update. I've been having two problems since I went to Leopard that I hoped this update would solve, and it didn't solve them; and it's frustrating. I'm telling these guys. I've worked patiently. I've been very patient with my Apple rep, with my developer rep, and they're working hard on it, but nothing gets done! All use file reports and get lost in the Apple bureaucratic system -- and occasionally a good-intentioned, good-hearted Apple rep will get on the phone, try to solve it, and will say, "Yep. It's the same problem I'm having on my machine." They're having the same problem at Apple that I'm having here, but it's supposed to work.

So I'm asking these guys during the break, "Do you think I ought to put out a plea to Steve Jobs? I know he's politically opposite of me, but just to say, "Mr. Jobs, please, I just ordered six brand-new Mac Pros: four for me and two as gifts; maxed out, Blu-ray drives. I've loaded 'em up. Our whole office here is Mac, and I just want it to work because I love them -- and these two things that aren't working would seem to me, as a novice, to be a simple fix, but they're not." So I was telling these guys, "Do you think I ought to make an appeal, a direct appeal to Steve Jobs from behind the Golden EIB Microphone? 'Mr. Jobs, please help me.' I know we don't agree on anything. You love Algore -- and by the way, I've got no problem with him now, but can you put me to somebody that can get this going, because I know it's gotta work for most people. What am I doing wrong?" Maimone said, "You don't understand it. Jobs has you tagged. He's making sure your computers don't work. If you put out this appeal to Steve Jobs and ask him to help, his reply is going to be, 'Mr. Limbaugh. Do us a favor and endorse Windows.'" (laughter)

Full transcript, in which Limbaugh never does get around to identifying his two problems, here.

[UPDATE: 2:55pm EST: According to MacDailyNews Reader "Tommy Boy," Rush has identified his two problems: Back to My Mac (can connect using direct IP sharing but not using Back to My Mac) and Time Machine (cannot restore mailboxes). More info here.]

OMG here we go.

I would be interested however to know what the exact problem is. without having to listen to his show.

For me I'm glad they just 'fixed' the stacks problem. That problem being that stacks are useless.

Feb 13, 08 - 12:57 pm Comment from: Tom Strong

Haha, Rush is a pretty funny guy.

Feb 13, 08 - 12:58 pm Comment from: deepdish

Well, he has been a mac user for a long time now. So hopefully he is a little smart when it comes to fixing his own mac problems.

Just a detail show out what the problem is and let us try to recreate it.

Mac user in need is a friend, no matter what their opinions are.

Feb 13, 08 - 12:58 pm Comment from: MacBill

WTF are his two problems?!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:00 pm Comment from: Ferf Muckmeyer

I am ashamed that fatass pill-popping conservative buttface Limbaugh is a Mac fan. He should be relegated to the TI-994A.

Then again, guess we need all the fanboys we can get....

Feb 13, 08 - 01:03 pm Comment from: Ray

WOW! If I had known that being a draft dodger paid so much...

Just my $0.02

Feb 13, 08 - 01:03 pm Comment from: pr

If there are Limbaugh listeners here on the list (as I'm sure there are) could you report back on this and let others know what his specific issues are?

One of the most amazing things about the Mac is that the community of people are for the most part so helpful and willing to loook into problems others are having. There's probably a developer out there who at least has a decent work around.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:05 pm Comment from: Steve - Interesting

For some living under a rock, this should reveal that yes, Macs appeal to people of all political spectrum's (man, Rush's system setup sounds sweet, but I digress...).

It goes to show that Mac's "transcend" politics, and give us all "common ground" on which we can agree.

Mac for PRESIDENT!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:06 pm Comment from: Chair Dodger

Ferf-
"Then again, guess we need all the fanboys we can get...."

No we don't. We have plenty. If we lose Rush, big deal. Who'll notice? Just the right-wing wacktards.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:07 pm Comment from: bon

Evil, evil conservatives don't deserve macs. Serves 'em right to have problems! Steve probably screwed with Rush's Macs on purpose!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:08 pm Comment from: lurker

Limbo has always had a problem with facts and complete, consistent thoughts (remember when he used to say drug addicts should go to jail?). Why should his attempts to define a problem with Apple be any different? His mouth just runs, it doesn't actually go anywhere.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:08 pm Comment from: bon

Liberals should all die! Don't it figure that a computer coming from the heart of liberal land would be screwed up?! Libs can mess up anything! Even a Mac!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:11 pm Comment from: The Other Steve

Rush talked and talked and never got to the point?
I'm shocked!

Just let us know what it is, I'm sure we Mac users (including listeners to your show) will have loads of workarounds till Steve J puts you back on his good list. wink

Feb 13, 08 - 01:14 pm Comment from: Jesus

All he has to do is repair permissions. That will fix is problems.. and make his system snappier.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:16 pm Comment from: The Other Steve

If I were able to write a Mac virus, it would be to have Hillary's face pop up on Rush's screen at random intervals.

Just a little harmless fun.
Fortunately for him, he's using a Mac.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:16 pm Comment from: Misha Bawa

Mac Pros don't have a Blu-Ray option, buddy. Perhaps you don't have a problem either, because we all know that Macs are perfect.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:16 pm Comment from: Ferf Muckmeyer

@Chair Dodger,

OK, ok, you are correct. Fsck Rush and the rest of his minions.

And @Bon,

I thought you conservatives were all Jesus lovers that love life and would never wish death on anyone (except of course, you'd like to kill all Muslims, which again is contrary to your "beliefs"). If you had any brains, it's the conservatives that have put us in the mess we are in, not Liberals....

Feb 13, 08 - 01:17 pm Comment from: ByeTakeCare

The sobering reality.

http://www.rixstep.com/2/4/20080212,00.shtml

Hope Apple can fix the internals of Leopard before it's too late. BTW, the childish, hate mongering, liberal Apple fanbois won't get it anyway.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:17 pm Comment from: Jesus

Steve.. you could easily do that in applescript. Just make him think that clicking on the application will make him win free oxycodone.. and you will be set.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:20 pm Comment from: BlueStateRed

Rush is GOD! -- Go Rush (we love you out here on the Left Coast)

Feb 13, 08 - 01:21 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

Clearly, Limbaugh is insane. Up his meds!

What's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburgh?

One is a Nazi gas-bag, the other is a dirigible.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:21 pm Comment from: BlueState Red

Muslems don't count (followers of the Antichrist Mohamed)

Feb 13, 08 - 01:21 pm Comment from: JIm D.

Soooooo......MDN, what is the point of this (other than to get more eyeballs to look at the ad fiesta on the website)???

Feb 13, 08 - 01:22 pm Comment from: Always Right

Look, if YOU took 30 oxycontin a day, YOU might forget to get to the point, too.

There, that's NY childish, hate mongering, liberal Apple fanboi remark.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:23 pm Comment from: mr_matalino

Hey stupid liberals...

Rush is helping your AAPL shares so quit whining.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:23 pm Comment from: Bill

Some narrow-minded bigots like great design also I guess.

I'll bet neither he nor his support team have tried the Apple support Message boards. I also had more problems with the Leopard upgrade than any other, but I was able to resolve all via a little research.

If he stated the problems in his long-winded plea, perhaps someone could get him the answer.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:24 pm Comment from: Always Right

That is. "MY" remark.
Hey- somebody send a link to this page to Ruch.
Maybe he'll comment on it!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:24 pm Comment from: Bob

How the hell is he getting Blueray drives installed? Apple doesn't offer the Mac Pro ( or any system for that matter) with Blueray drives.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:34 pm Comment from: GmanMac

Blu-Ray Drives?

Feb 13, 08 - 01:36 pm Comment from: montex

This tirade from oxycontin-addicted Limbaugh is interesting in that it is a typical form of Windows-centric thinking. When PC users have problems with their machines, and they very often do, they like to put the blame at the very top -- Bill Gates.

Rush doesn't bother telling us what his problem is (a HUGE omission) but he sure is quick to go straight to Steve Jobs. What is so wrong that he couldn't hire any IT contractor who specializes in Macs? I'm sure he could have his problem rapidly if he'd just hire a MacGeek for a day.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:36 pm Comment from: Famous Grouse

Bob: you beat me to it. I was wondering the same thing - I even went to the Apple store online to see if I had missed a configuration option.

Can anyone say if Blueray is available to developers? Did Rush just violate his NDA? Is he going to be pwned by Apple's lawyers?

Feb 13, 08 - 01:37 pm Comment from: Screw The Politicos on Here

This is not a political forum - Rush's problem is not political... disagree or not - stop bashing conservatives. There are more on here than you think.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:38 pm Comment from: don

Begging for something from a Liberal?! I guess Crushed Limpballs is still suffering from McCain Derangement Disorder.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:38 pm Comment from: @Bob

Probably ordered through a vendor or Blu-Rays put in through his IT staff.

You are just jealous smile

Feb 13, 08 - 01:38 pm Comment from: Missy Pants

I was going to make some snide remark like, "Does anyone down there still listen to Rush Limbaugh?!", and then I remembered that enough Canadians voted for Stephen Harper to make him Prime Minister. Head hanging down. Slinking away ....

Feb 13, 08 - 01:39 pm Comment from: John C. Randolph

I think Rush might be back on his drugs. Apple's not offering a Blu-Ray drive on any Mac, not to the public, nor to developers.

@Ferf Muckthrower

"I am ashamed that fatass pill-popping conservative buttface Limbaugh is a Mac fan. He should be relegated to the TI-994A."

All this hatred from someone who probably spouts that he's compassionate and a free speech advocate. Typical lib loser.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:44 pm Comment from: madgunde

The Mac Pro has a spare optical drive bay. A third party Blu-Ray drive could be installed in that bay by the reseller. I think people are just assuming he's ordering the computers from Apple directly.

I hope if Rush does document his two issues somewhere, MDN will report on it so people can offer up suggestions for a fix.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:44 pm Comment from: Add on drive

You can easily add a blu ray drive to a Mac pro and other Macs

http://fastmac.com/slim_bluray.php

Feb 13, 08 - 01:45 pm Comment from: theloniousMac

I wish he'd say what the problems were.

(OEMs add Blu-Ray drives).

Feb 13, 08 - 01:46 pm Comment from: McCain

Crushed Limpballs! LOL!!!!!

Feb 13, 08 - 01:48 pm Comment from: ron

@Messy Pants, I was going to make some snide remark like, "Does anyone down there still listen to Rush Limbaugh?!", and then I remembered that enough Canadians voted for Stephen Harper to make him Prime Minister. Head hanging down. Slinking away ....

Tell that to Err Amerika. Rush reaches more true Americans than anyone else.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:48 pm Comment from: HMCIV

@ByeTakeCare

Wow, was that a web site plug?

Feb 13, 08 - 01:49 pm Comment from: Haiku

Blu-Ray Ain't On Tap
But el-Rushbo Says Trust Me
Fat Chance Fat Chance Fat...

Feb 13, 08 - 01:51 pm Comment from: Jimbo von Winskinheimer

So why does he think that he deserves special treatment?

What he needs to do is to put in a call to Apple support, then wait...like the rest of us. At Apple, being a rich privileged guy doesn't get you anything. Sorry old man.

His problems may be larger than he thinks. It might not be so easy to fix them. There's also testing involved. If 10 people report it, it's not a big issue. If 10,000 people report it, it might be.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:51 pm Comment from: Spark

@ByeTakeCare

The last line of your linked article takes most of the wind out of the anti OS X tirade. For those it didn't waste the time looking at it, it reads:
"And Microsoft Windows was never that bad."

Feb 13, 08 - 01:55 pm Comment from: Mac-American

@ron

Apparently, El Rusho isn't reaching enough "true Americans" because Senator McCain is winning the primaries with nearly 75% of the GOP vote. Lots of conservatives are turning Limbaugh (and Ann Coulter) off.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:56 pm Comment from: Michael Dell

I have a blu-ray drive in my Mac Pro err Inspiron.

Feb 13, 08 - 01:58 pm Comment from: pete

His problem is that he can't play blu-ray disks on his "blu-ray drives". His Apple contacts have verified that, sure enough, this cannot be done. Someone needs to tell him the problems will go away when our troops come home.

Feb 13, 08 - 02:01 pm Comment from: Draven

His two problems:
1. He can't get his HD-DVD movies to play on his Blu-Ray drives.
2. He can't get his Blu-Ray Movies to play either, because Macs don't have a F#$%^* Blu-Ray drive!
