“The current sales of Apple’s iPhone 3G in Russia are insufficient in comparison with the previously announced plans. Only 30,000 devices were sold in Russia in 30 days since its official launch in the country. Experts say that the situation is not going to change for the better during the upcoming months. To crown it all, Apple plans to cut the production of its 3G phones by 40 percent,” Pravda reports.
“The poor sales of Apple’s revolutionary device in Russia can be explained with the late appearance of the phone on the Russian market, the onerous terms of the contracts that come with the device, the absence of fully developed 3G and Wi-Fi networks in Russia, the lack of iTunes support and so on,” Pravda reports.

Commie propaganda! Oh, wait….

Well hell, there you go! Why buy a phone with features you can’t even use? That’s lunacy.
Pravda used to be a good paper but for the last eight years or more has been the direct equivalent of the Weekly World News paper in the USA.
They run stories on Sasquatch flying his spaceship to visit his ghost girlfriend and so forth. I wouldn’t believe anything they say about anything.
I still using the first gen iPhone (edge) because TELCEL 3g network in Mexico is very expensive. Every extra Mb cost you 4 dollars, imagine that.

No, that was the past year on CNN.

Bit other than that, why aren’t they selling?!
@Jeremy: Pravda used to be a good paper? Huh?
I suppose you could argue it used to be a different paper, but a good one? Really?
@Jeremy:
You say it like WWN is not legit. Next you’ll say a skinny kid with a weird name will run the country one day…
Odd this. I was in Moscow two weeks ago and was amazed at the number of iPhones I encountered. Maybe it’s the circles I mix with.
I suppose Jeremy meant during the period between 1991 and about 2000 (when Yeltsin stepped down and Putin took over; not sure about the coincidence).
Of course, the pre-1991 (and especially, pre- Gorbachev) years were just priceless!
Yeltsin was Russia’s Bush.
iPhones (jailbroken) have been huge in Russia since the first generation. So sales are also being affected by the fact that MANY already have one–and enjoy them without the restraints of any particular companies’ contract. Sure, some of the functionality isn’t there, but it was more of a status thing.
Before they were officially released, many creative importers made huge profits on iPhones, since they were selling them on “the street” for over $1000…
