“Japanese electronics maker Sharp said Friday it would join the massive global recall of notebook batteries made by Sony,” CBC News reports.
“Almost every major laptop maker has now told customers to return Sony-made lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat and catch fire,” CBC News reports.
CBC News reports., “Sharp said its recall involves 28,000 Sony-made battery packs for seven laptop models, plus add-on batteries that were sold separately.”
CBC News reports., “The number of units involved in the global recall of Sony-made batteries is now more than seven million. The largest recalls have been issued by Dell Inc., with 4.2 million batteries affected, and Apple Computer Inc., with 1.8 million batteries. Sony has said it expects costs of at least $170 million US related to the Dell and Apple recalls alone.”

Wow, Sony is just losing it.
Their competitive edge is duller than ever and their products are mediocre. Some changes need to be made starting from the top.
This story keeps getting worse. I’m surprised that there aren’t any conspiracy inclined tech. journalists questioning why Sony’s laptops haven’t been affected.
Isn’t it about time for the entire Sony board to commit seppuku? Because at this point I’m beginning to think that’s the only way they can die with honor.
