Hmm.. Not my kind of humor I guess. I found it pretty stale.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:16 pm Comment from: dukemeiser

I still can not get an answer to, can I use skype on this phone? Anybody knows the answer?

Jan 14, 07 - 01:16 pm Comment from: Lvr

... I did however find the Microsoft Zune Phone hilarious!

Keith Olbermann also made Steve Jobs a "Worse" Person in the World (the "bronze medal" in his "Worst Person in the World" segment) for prank calling the Starbucks. But I'm pretty sure it was meant as a joke, because he offered to take him off the list for a free iPhone.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:24 pm Comment from: TowerTone

Last night, Steve Jobs said this phone will hole ONE KABILLION contacts.
It's true.
I saw him on SNL.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:27 pm Comment from: mac user 47

bitter - not funny.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:44 pm Comment from: Blahger

That was funny as hell, unless you hate America. You don't hate America, do you?

Jan 14, 07 - 01:45 pm Comment from: Zune Tang

Not my type of humor either. What's up with this guy?

Your potential. Our passion.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:45 pm Comment from: Dakaix

Was that supposed to be funny?

Jan 14, 07 - 01:48 pm Comment from: R

I thought this was great! I'm assuming a lot of people who've commented negatively about it on Digg or elsewhere either don't like his brand of humor (which is fair enough), or they don't fully grasp that it's satire - and that Colbert usually means the opposite of what he's saying. Either way, in this case, I think it's good press for Apple - and the fact that the iPhone garnered attention on Colbert's show, The Late Late Show, Conan O'Brien and SNL is just fantastic! It certainly proves what a presence Apple has in the collective conscious now...

Jan 14, 07 - 01:49 pm Comment from: macPinche

Tongue planted firmly in cheek, but... not that funny.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:56 pm Comment from: Gavron

AlexD,

the pundits are saying it should be no problem as the iPhone has wifi.

Jan 14, 07 - 01:56 pm Comment from: Bananaman

Oh my, that was funny, and I ain't even an American. Some of you guys take yourselves way too seriously!

Jan 14, 07 - 01:58 pm Comment from: Tom Strong

Colbert is a snarky, cynical, liberal douchebag.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:02 pm Comment from: MadMac

Lighten up GEEKS, that was funy as hell!!!!!

Jan 14, 07 - 02:07 pm Comment from: Tergenev

That was excellent!

Jan 14, 07 - 02:07 pm Comment from: Gavron

AlexD,

I've just recalled that it was in a Your Mac Life podcast - I think it was David Pogue who said that no other cell phone had Wi-Fi because the carriers don't tolerate it - because they lose money when people phoned on Skype.

He said, he thought that the inclusion of Wi-Fi was probably a condition that S. Jobs had made when negotiating with Cingular.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:10 pm Comment from: Mac Ed

PORNOGRAPHY!!! thats was funny..

Jan 14, 07 - 02:12 pm Comment from: Irish Dude

Thought that was funny myself actually. Its obvious that he is an Apple fan anyway. Said he was already with Cingular so it wont be a problem. Also said to Apple that computers shouldn't be easy to use etc..... Was hilarious imo.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:18 pm Comment from: alansky

still can not get an answer to, can I use skype on this phone? Anybody knows the answer?

I read somewhere yesterday that Skype compatibility is being considered. Cingular, of course, is against it since phone calls use airtime minutes while data calls are unlimited.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:21 pm Comment from: Yours Smugly

Yeah, Colbert is a snarky, cynical, liberal douchebag, and I love it. That was great, especially the ending.

"...before it starts chasing John Connor." Heh.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:23 pm Comment from: Anti-Anti

So many of the people that post here have no sense of humor whatsoever--it's a JOKE people! Zune Tang is trying to be FUNNY, people! For fsck's sake, stop taking yourselves so god damned seriously! LAUGH! It's a beautiful day outside! Chill out! It will be okay!

Jan 14, 07 - 02:26 pm Comment from: ibookfast

Gavron,

My Tmobile MDA has wifi. My unlimited data plan includes "free" access to all Tmobile hotspots(starbucks, hotels, etc.) as well as my home wifi network.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:31 pm Comment from: United States of Generica

Yep, this was funny; especially the punchline about John Connor.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:31 pm Comment from: kenh

It's a sad comment about modern culture when a person from the entertainment side of the world with a cynical, snide attitude about everything is looked upon as a serious commentator about anything except that which appeals to the 7th grade mentality. Colbert, Olberman, etc.

I teach 7th grade, so I see the similarity between them and your average 7th grader.

They define their entire world around how they can score points by how well they can point out other peoples supposed faults.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:36 pm Comment from: Essefgy

Too bad so few people didn't find Colbert funny. Maybe he used too many big words. (...Or they can't recognize fricking SATIRE!)

Jan 14, 07 - 02:42 pm Comment from: solid

kenh, please expand your commentary to include such lovable guys as Limbaugh, Hannity, O'reilly, Coulter, Malkin, Beck, Morgan, Hume, Gibson, Miller, Carlson, Scarborough, et al.

They are also some of the most snide, cynical, nasty people you will ever meet, but they support really evil people in power instead of exposing them, which is supposed to be the job of the fourth estate.

Jan 14, 07 - 02:53 pm Comment from: Xavier

Absolutely funny....maybe some people here got offended by his references to nerds.....
But I really think he was just being ironic, he did say he wanted to get a free iPhone

Loosen up guys !!!

Jan 14, 07 - 03:03 pm Comment from: because

kehn: referring to Colbert and Olbermann as if they are equivalent means that you are either retarded, a republican, or both.

Snide? Try out fucking VP.

Jan 14, 07 - 03:08 pm Comment from: G-Spank

Yeah this guy isn't funny if you don't have a sense of humor. If you do have a sense of humor, he is hilarious!!!

Great stuff...

Jan 14, 07 - 03:12 pm Comment from: Foxxed

LOL! That was hillarious. Some of you guys need to chill.

Jan 14, 07 - 03:24 pm Comment from: Bizarro Ballmer

@Anti-Anti

The Colbert report was very funny but Zune Tang is a boring bonehead. Like you and all the ones who think he is hilarious.

Get a life

Jan 14, 07 - 03:42 pm Comment from: Lvr

LOL! That was hillarious. Some of you guys need to chill.

------------------------

Hey man, I'm pretty chill and relaxed.. Just because some of us don't think it's funny doesn't mean we're up in arms over it.. I personally didn't think it was funny, I thought it was boring and pretty stale humor, but I'm certainly not bothered by it. No big deal.

Jan 14, 07 - 04:15 pm Comment from: Vanillacide

Some of the reactions to this comedy makes me think that Americans may soon have a reputation for not understanding or appreciating SATIRE -- as well as legendary lack of sense of IRONY and inability to see SARCASM.

Jan 14, 07 - 04:16 pm Comment from: LoosenUp

You folks who don't understand Colbert probably have never realized what he's trying to do. His on-screen "character" is a PARODY of Bill O'Reilly of Fox News, down all the way to his style of speech. The funny part is, his parody character actually shows how silly some of the stuff is from Fox News by _exaggerating_ the sort of anti-science, anti-reality attitude that comes from O'Reilly and the people who watch The O'Reilly Factor. If you get this, THEN you will find why Colbert is so hilarious.

Jan 14, 07 - 04:23 pm Comment from: John

...Oh and it IS -SATIRE- folks, so you guys really REALLY need to loosen up. If you can't recognize satire, you either (1) don't watch enough comedy or (2) watch Fox News and actually believe everything you see and hear from it.

[Not that Fox is satire; it's just that most things on there are so preposterous, it's a wonder that anyone could call it factual "news"]

Jan 14, 07 - 04:37 pm Comment from: a German who lives in Spain

thats very funny - my kind of humor

Jan 14, 07 - 04:46 pm Comment from: Zune Tang

Buster gets it. Well said, my friend.

Hey all of you MDN posters take note of Buster's comments. Great stuff as always. I swear that has to be a Dell running Windows 98 he's using to post. I can tell because he has all the humorlessness, misery and intolerance us Windows fanboys treasure. Glad to have you on board.

Your potential. Our passion.

Soon? If by soon, you mean yesterday.

Oh well, atleast they have The Simpson's — which is ironically on FOX.

Thanks for your reply, Some Nokia phones have wifi and Skype mobile clients, I was hoping to get an iphone but only if it allows it freely.

cheers

Jan 14, 07 - 06:30 pm Comment from: JBR

I'm sorry, but Colbert just flat out isn't funny. Neither is Jon Stewart either for that matter...

Jan 14, 07 - 06:34 pm Comment from: EZ Mac

That was funny as hell !!!!!!

Jan 14, 07 - 06:57 pm Comment from: TowerTone

I think humor is in the ear of the beholder.

I am a conservative who loves humor like this, because I get it, it doesn't offend me, and I am an optimist, so I enjoy almost ALL humor.

What I don't get is people thinking just because a story is on Fox, it is made up.

If you are really sincere about finding the truth, then you will believe NO news source that can't back up its stories. I have seen this on ALL networks at times, but I see it more on ABC, CBS, and CNN.

As far as lumping Colbert with Oberman, yes, there is a difference. One tells jokes, the other IS a joke!

Also, I heard Steve Jobs say the battery life on this thing is about 20 minutes...

Jan 14, 07 - 07:06 pm Comment from: macgeek

I have to admit Zune tang is making a huge fool of microsoft with his slogan at the end of his comments " Your potential, Our passion" speaks rightly well of Microsoft.. just explains they are a bunch of copycats of apple technology. No offense Zune but suggest you remove that slogan, you are only hurting microsoft and yourself.

Jan 14, 07 - 07:31 pm Comment from: Awwww Fsck!!!

I just scratched my iPhone AND it has oil fom my oily-assed face on the touchscreen from when I hold it up to my ear to talk. Thank God for that BT earwig. Hope this thing comes with a nice SOFT carrying case!!

Jan 14, 07 - 07:32 pm Comment from: solid

TowerTone, a true conservative who is an optimist, that is quite a rare combination. I applaud you for that. Most conservatives I know are very cynical, distrustful, and afraid of change by nature, so you apparently don't fit the mold.

Fox News doesn't make up all their news, they just point it at a "fun house mirror" to twist and distort it, appealing to their neocon masters. Or they will throw up a sensational headline and put a question mark behind it (guess that keeps them from running afowl of the FCC). Every once in a while they will get real sneaky and put up a Democrat label on Mark Foley, for example. I don't trust any of the major news outlets, but Fox News is the clear winner in not earning my trust.

As far as calling Olbermann a joke, I could not disagree with you more. He's passionate for sure, but he's usually dead on accurate in speaking truth to power. You're entitled to your opinion as I am, so we cancel each other out.

I didn't hear Steve Jobs say what you claim, so I don't know if you are being truthful or are just being a smart aleck.
