Thailand’s AIS in talks with Apple over iPhone
Monday, January 21, 2008 - 03:37 PM EST

"Apple Inc. and Thailand's Advanced Info Service are in talks about selling the U.S. firm's popular iPhone in Thailand, a senior official of the Thai firm said on Monday," Pisit Changplayngam reports for Reuters.

"'We are negotiating on details, including a revenue sharing standard. Apple needs a local operator to promote iPhone,' [said] Prattana Leelapanang, assistant vice president for AIS's wireless business marketing," Changplayngam reports.

"Last week, Apple and China Mobile, the world's largest cellular operator, terminated talks to launch iPhone, one of the hottest gadgets to hit U.S. and European stores in 2007," Changplayngam reports.

MacDailyNews Take: That is completely incorrect. Apple CEO Steve Jobs told CNBC's Jim Goldman last week that rumors of on-again, off-again negotiations with China Mobile are simply untrue; just a single China Mobile rep. has flown out to Cupertino just once. There are no ongoing negotiations, just a first meeting. Jobs wants iPhone in China, but details will come later.

Changplayngam continues, "Apart from China, Apple had also initiated talks with NTT DoCoMo Inc. and Softbank Corp. to bring its multimedia device to Japan, although sources at both firms said revenue-sharing was a hotly contested issue."

I'm just happy that I was able to work today to help pay the wages of all the civil servants out there. I'm sure they were all doing something useful and selfless in honor of MLK. My tax dollars at work.

I know I speak for Americans everywhere when I declare we need a Federal Holiday for Ron Jeremy.

Jan 23, 08 - 03:34 am Comment from: MacSheikh

Maybe you guys can propose a special day for George Bush. Instead of a holiday, maybe everyone will have to work double hours!

Oh happy day!
