TheStreet.com’s Scott Moritz: Steve Jobs’ health announcement just a ‘temporary salve’ for Apple
Monday, January 05, 2009 - 04:25 PM EST

"Don't count on Apple chief Steve Jobs dashing onto the stage in a surprise appearance at the Macworld show this week," Scott Moritz writes for TheStreet.com.

"Apple fans -- aware that Jobs was not giving the big speech -- held out hope that he might show up for a quick 'hello' to put health rumors to rest," Moritz writes. "But according to Jobs, his doctors have only now discovered the source of his weight loss -- a hormone imbalance -- so it's probably safe to assume he's looking even thinner than before. Jobs says he's begun a remedy to the nutritional problem but says that it may take until Spring to regain the weight."

Moritz writes. "The problem is that Apple, whose stock was rising $4.75 to $95.50 on Monday's news, is pretty much a one-man show, at least to investors."

MacDailyNews Take: To which investors, Scott? The ones you're trying to influence or the ones who have at least two brain cells to rub together and can see right through you. That'd be figuratively, as seeing through a slime bucket is quite difficult regardless of mental acumen.

Moritz continues, "And this time around the company wants to avoid the scene-stealing impact Jobs' alarmingly thin appearance had in June, at his last public appearance."

MacDailyNews Take: The dope can't - or won't - get even basic facts correct: Steve Jobs held a special presentation in the middle of October. Right after the one he did in September. Is Moritz a liar or ignoramus? You decide.

Moritz continues, "Last month, Apple announced that marketing chief Phil Schiller, not Jobs, would deliver the keynote speech. The announcement followed months of silence as concerns about Jobs' health flourished."

MacDailyNews Take: Yes, "concerns flourished" from your keyboard and those like you, Scott. Vile.

Moritz continues, "Beyond Jobs, there isn't a clear successor. Apple's management bench isn't all that deep with visionaries."

MacDailyNews Take: What a load. As usual. Jobs' statement about his health this morning seems to be a powerful catalyst for exhuming scum to the surface of the Internet. We weep for humanity today.

Jerk...
Should "we", some of us readers at MDN forma a blog called "Think-before-you-click.com oi.e., and publish all these kind of shitty pieces from the likes of Mortiz, Thurrot and co. ?

"so it's probably safe to assume he's looking even thinner than before"

There's some hard hitting journalism. Assuming.

Someone should point out to all these pundits that Warren Buffet's successor is not obvious either and Buffet is more important to Berkshire than Jobs is to Apple. However the Berkshire Board knows who the successor is and I am sure the Apple Board at least has a short list.

I hope Phil Schiller does a great job with the keynote. And I hope he brings out Ivy and Cook and anyone else who has something interesting to say and can say it well. If these guys give a great keynote without Jobs, maybe people will begin to realize that Jobs is not the wizard behind the curtain pulling all the levers.

Apple is a big company that would not be so big and successful if only one guy was doing all the work, making all the decisions, and setting all the vision.

Moritz is a Moron

Sing along, you know the song...

Jan 05, 09 - 04:58 pm Comment from: HMCIV

He shorts our stock. I want to short his sheets.

Jan 05, 09 - 04:59 pm Comment from: Rob

I hope Steve will appear looking better than ever and make this guy look like an ass.

Jan 05, 09 - 05:20 pm Comment from: stucktrader

Doesnt surprise any of us right? So, no big deal. Plus the Market decides what it wants... they could care less about Moritz or his boss Cramer for that matter.

"That'd be figuratively, as seeing through a slime bucket is quite difficult regardless of mental acumen."

I *was* going to be extremely annoyed by the presence of yet another "Steve Jobs health ONOZ!" story here, but the way that line was phrased in the MDN Take got a good laugh out of me.

Jan 05, 09 - 05:40 pm Comment from: R2

Moritz might be onto something. Jobs could be even thinner than before if he started to lose more weight. The sight of him might be ghastly to us.

Jan 05, 09 - 05:44 pm Comment from: Lurker_PC

@devsingh - sounds like a good idea to me!

Peace.

Jan 05, 09 - 05:46 pm Comment from: thrasycon

"could be thinner"

And you base this "could" on what?

Slug slime in my garden has more honor than Moritz, and you of course.

Jan 05, 09 - 06:00 pm Comment from: KenC

Scott Moritz is a well-known flunky of Jim Cramer who founded TheStreet.com. He's always trying to push down Apple, thru TheStreet and the SanJose Mercury News.

Jan 05, 09 - 06:06 pm Comment from: ken1w

This Scott Moritz guy must be one of the AAPL shorts, or he advised people to go short AAPL and will not be crucified.

This is exactly what Apple intended by being mysterious about the health of Steve Jobs leading up to MacWorld. All the stock price manipulators will now be destroyed and their future "advice" will be mostly meaningless.

Jan 05, 09 - 06:09 pm Comment from: Randian

Fucktards, each and every one. A pox on all of today's "analysts." They are merely stock manipulators, the financial jackals of the night. Bernie Madoff is their pack leader, the rest being mere pups nipping at his heels. May they ALL end up in jail.

the sad thing is, thestreet.com is one of our clients at work. i hate that site, they're the most ill-informed d-bags around. i've gotten into it with this tool before as well, he's not too bright.

Jan 05, 09 - 06:58 pm Comment from: MacFhearghaile

OH WoW, The Street.Com it must be true.
What a frigtard

Jan 05, 09 - 08:45 pm Comment from: Actually...

Steve Jobs actually has not lost any weight. Phil Schiller has gained weight. The solution is to make sure they don't appear on the same stage!

Jan 06, 09 - 12:04 am Comment from: rickw

As far as I'm concerned, SteveJ did the right thing. I was really hoping that he would do what he did today. Lay this health problem to rest. Obviously the dubious will await Spring to conjour up some other malfeasance for clicks. Let's see, will they wait for Easter or the official march of spring, say "prove you've gained weight by March 21st..."

Such is the world we live in today. Apple is still doing well and the jealousy of these miscreants is what is leading the negative stories.

Jan 06, 09 - 01:43 am Comment from: justme2

Steve Ballmer has no obvious successor either, and if you've ever driven in Seattle-area traffic you know that accidents can and will happen...why not start musing about what will happen to Microsoft if Ballmer gets in a bad wreck?

Jan 06, 09 - 01:47 am Comment from: justme2

The reason he didn't tell anyone before now is it's likely they didn't know the cause before now -- probably went through a lot of testing, first to make sure it wasn't a cancer recurrence (involving X-rays and CT scans, no doubt; my husband has to go through those periodically after successful surgery to remove a cancerous testicle), then once that was eliminated as a cause, all sorts of other tests.

Jan 06, 09 - 03:11 am Comment from: Tacitus

@justme2:

If Ballmer floats away, MS stock price will go through the roof and they might start to reorganise and do something.

Pray it never happens.

Jan 06, 09 - 07:59 am Comment from: MacFan

I hope all in attendance to MacWorld will chant Phil Phil Phill for 5 or ten minutes when he comes out to show the pundits it's not just a Steve show!
