Time Magazine’s Gadget of the Year: Apple iPhone
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 09:30 AM EST

Having already named Apple's iPhone "Invention of the Year," Time Magazine pretty much had to put iPhone atop their "Gadget of the Year" list:

The iPhone changed the way we think about how mobile media devices should look, feel and perform. The design is exceptional inside and out: It's got a slick glass-and-stainless steel case and an elegant touch screen loaded with eye candy. It's an iPod and a 2-megapixel camera. Images and video clips display vertically or horizontally — they reorient themselves depending on how you hold the thing. When the phone detects a wireless network within range — your own home wi-fi set up or somebody else's — it lets you tap once to connect, and then proceed with your Web surfing, Google mapping, emailing and other activities that can otherwise be painfully slow over AT&T's cellular network — the only one, unfortunately, that carries iPhone calls. - Maryanne Murray Buechner

Time also named Apple's iPhone TV ad, "Meredith," #5 on their "Top 10 TV Ads" list:

Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris directs a series of spots in Apple's signature clean style that document the various ways iPhone owners are utilizing their new toys. In this one, a guy describes how he retrieved a forgotten name minutes before a meet-the-boss dinner by pulling up a wedding web site on his iPhone under the table. No need for high-concept. The super-gadget sells itself. - Rebecca Winters Keegan

It's a fine line between gadgets and inventions.

Dec 12, 07 - 10:14 am Comment from: Mr. Reeee

Good for iPhone, Apple, Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive!

AT&T;exclusivity is the only real iPhone downer.

I feel like TIme is sort of riding the bandwagon here...but then again, I can't complain about 100% free publicity!

Gadget of the year. Yep the iPhone, not Zune, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, LG or that HTC! The HTC Ballmer did a video promo for business despite lacking a keyboard, yet Ballmer said the iPhone will fail since it lacks a keyboard. LOL

"It's a fine line between gadgets and inventions."

True. And Inspector Invention just didn't have a good ring to it.

Ironic that the embedded video above cannot be viewed on the iPhone.

@DarthMac,
Really?!?!? That sucks @$$! I wouldn't have let that sucker out of my hands for anything.

Alright, open season on jokes for the line above. 1, 2, 3........

Dec 12, 07 - 02:45 pm Comment from: lost iphone

If an iPhone is lost or stolen it will come home. Mine did, twice! In fact, it will often return before you even know it is missing. Probably lots of iPhone owners have lost their iPhones and never even knew it.

This is one of the unpublished little perks of the device.
