Quad core is WAY to hot and consumes WAY too much energy to put in a laptop. Sorry MDN, but I seriously doubt that Core i5 or i7 will show up in MBPs any time soon...

Those are all nearly twice as thick and (at least) twice as heavy as any variant of a MBP. The Hypersonic was 13.8 (!!!) lbs! Are you kidding me?

I love how when there's serious hardware in a non-Apple laptop its always called a "gaming" machine but when the same hardware is in an Apple product its just a "Macbook or Macbook Pro".....

@unclemacosx - They can put the quad core in anything, but it has to be useable. These laptops are basically useless unless you have them plugged in and they weigh a freakin ton. Why not just buy a desktop? Apple isn't going to come out with a laptop that can't be unplugged for more than 2 hours.

Interesting point. I have a pet peeve involving Apple, where the Minis, and iMacs are always referred to as the "consumer" models, and anything with "Pro" in the name is always presumes to appeal to professionals only, which not only stupid but wrong anyway. What's wrong with a fast machine at home?

My bad- yes, the i5/i7 are designed for laptops. BUT, I can't imagine that they are as powerful as the desktop models.

Still, it would be nice to have that power (as long as it doesn't suck the battery dry too quickly...)

Mr. Reeee - Yeah, there's definitely a niche group that would buy one of these laptops. But, Apple doesn't usually pander to the gaming crowd. I just don't see them coming out with a 13 pound laptop that will only run for 2 hours just to run a quad core. Apple doesn't have a market for it. There are very few people that are going to drop 3+ grand for a laptop.

Either i5/i7 MacBook Pro models or simply placeholders for the two iSlates that are coming .
