It was hysterical. David Pogue may do a good job at being an unbiased journalist, but we all know that he's long been a Mac user at heart. This video let's that shine through!

My theory:
Microsoft knows they are copying OS X.
In their mind, nobody significant uses OS X.
No one knows about OS X.
MSFT will not get caught because no one is familiar with the source of their copying.
MSFT thinks they own the OS market, therefore they have reign over any OS innovation.

They copy Apple as a personal affront. People forget that at the heart of these companies are people who started in a very bitter, contentious, sneaky rivalry. Little has changed, just the bank accounts.

What an absolutely crap legacy these Microsoft fools will leave.

I don't mind them copying. What are we afraid of? They've never been able to get anything nearly as good, except maybe their anti-virus software, even if they did buy that from another company and slap their name onto it.

These are the types of things that windows users need to see. I hope they do. I wish more videos were out there showing off the actual user interface in OS X.

Microsoft totally copied Mac OSX. They (Microsoft) should get their own ideas and stop stealing somebody elses.

Anybody who has used Macs for a couple decades may recall the original Apple vs. Microsoft lawsuit, which was thrown out for reasons similar to ones stated by Pogue.

The Mac has a trash can in the lower-right, while Windows implemented a recycle bin in the upper-left.

The sad thing is is that he is right - the differences between OS X and Vista are enough different that they are not the same. Google was awarded a patent on it's interface, but it is incredibly specific:

It would have been much different if Apple had a patent on menus that appear is response to a click or other user input. Unfortunately, the courts do not see the two interfaces as being similar.

Microsoft is like the DeBeers of the OS world. They think that just because they're the biggest supplier then that makes it so all OS innovations in the world belong to them.

This will only help people switch to Mac easier since Windows is now the same. Windows get virus, Mac don't, they're both the same otherwise, you choose.

Speaking as a Brit,

I think it is significant that there is an influential journalist working for a renowned newspaper in the U.S. who furthers the Mac cause - in a fair an elegant way.

Alas, the same can't be said for my home country. The BBC and The Guardian are two of many British media organizations which reveal, at best, ignorance and indifference in all things Apple, and, at worst, downright hostility.

David Pogue signed our copy of OSx the missing manual, at Boston "Mac Expo".
My son lost it on yhe subway. He happily replaced it.

And, appropriately, he seems like a very liberal right-thinking kind of guy.

The copying is just expected nowadays.

However, the real deal is that there is tight integration between OSX and THE HARDWARE ( PPC or INTEL). You know if you load TIGER it will run on a machine that's 6 or 8 year's old. Same as iPod and iTunes Music Store.

VISTA is only going to work on modern PC's and the biggest issue for homeowners is buying a new PC just to be able to use M$'s unoriginal software.

Oh yes, and I don't see that Apple will be warming up the copiers to get M$ features into LEOPARD.

Pogue had no 'killer app' to report.

Actually, Apple lost the 'look and feel' lawsuit versus Microsoft not because of thee sorts of things, but because the judge ruled that Microsoft's use of the GUI was allowed under Apples (way too) broad original agreement With Microsoft.

OS X will still have something on FISTA, function - As in functionality that people will actually use, that's predictable, and is reliable.

So FISTA, looks the same, but its not.

Mac fans are pretty sad since 95 to the present this is the most you people can come up with as an argument against Microsoft that they are stealin th idea's, well geuss what back in 1997 Mac sucked and needed Microsofts help because they were going bankrupt because they sucked. The thing thats really sad is that none of you appreciate what Microsoft did to help Mac, even the employers, but you know Microsoft doesn't care because let me ask you this. The ideas flow both ways, after all Apple now makes entire Windows compatibile machines, not exactly a "rip off" of Windows, more a realization of who's the king and who's their bitch.

Apple boot camp. Run a 100% copy of Windows on your Mac.

Typical mac fanboy hypocricy. Are they copied? Yes, of course, nothing wrong with copying good ideas, everyone does it.
Are they copied from OS X? Maybe. Did OS X in turn copy them from others? YES! Apple didn't invent any of this stuff, folks, and unless you're willing to admit it, you're in no position to blame Microsoft for doing the same.

i am a windows user all the way, but have used OS x, and its obvious microsoft copied mac... the video was saying stuff like widgets and gadgets...BIG DEAL, when i copied my friends essays of course i dont use word for word, i change a couple things, thats what vista did, this video proves nothing
