Video of new aluminum Apple MacBook leaked? (with link to video)
Friday, October 10, 2008 - 11:01 AM EST

Apple.pro and AppleOwner.com have posted a video claiming to show Apple's next-gen aluminum MacBook that's widely expected to be unveiled (anticlimactically) by Apple CEO Steve Jobs next Tuesday, October 14th.

The video shows an aluminum MacBook with a large trackpad (like MacBook Air) and a screen with a rather wide bezel.

See the video here.

I want those 2-minutes of my life back... Appalling video.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:14 am Comment from: JES42

What a joke and, as R said, a total waste of time. Pull the article, it isn't worth clicking on. MW "School" as in the photographer (!!) should sign up at one for classes.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:14 am Comment from: Gomer37

I wonder why the keyboard is covered up. Maybe Steve is about to introduce us to the new keyboard of his home planet! I'm so excited!

Oct 10, 08 - 10:15 am Comment from: iMacBerlin

Crap video!

Oct 10, 08 - 10:15 am Comment from: middilay

What a joke! What is the point. While it may be the new Macbook (or not) what is the point of going through the exercise and not zooming out to show the whole thing. As well the camera work is absolutely horrible. If there was a security concern over getting caught while filming you would have been faster to just snap a quality photo than two minutes of that garbage.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:15 am Comment from: Jimithy

Really?

I dunno I guess it could be real. Gah! Why do I always peek under the tree before Christmas morning?

Oct 10, 08 - 10:15 am Comment from: Numlock

That's just a MacBook Air. They just painted over the word Air on the bottom of the display/

Oct 10, 08 - 10:17 am Comment from: Jimithy

@middilay:

Video "evidence" is a bit more believable since it's not quite as easy to "Photoshop"

Oct 10, 08 - 10:18 am Comment from: Sentient Prototype

Video is gone. Someone got Steved.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:19 am Comment from: Masonhg

It's a macbook air. Isn't it sketchy how they only do close ups and not show the whole thing? It would have been easy enough to edit out "air" in the label on the screen.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:19 am Comment from: bpyoung83

well I have to say......that doesn't show you very much.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:22 am Comment from: Lame

That is a macbook air. I am watching this and am very disappointed, I want 2 minutes of my life back... Take this article OFF!!

Oct 10, 08 - 10:24 am Comment from: L.A. Punk

What's the point? You've obviously never been teased by a woman before.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:26 am Comment from: L.A. Punk

I love how the video says ew aluminum Macbook

lol

Oct 10, 08 - 10:26 am Comment from: jtc

not that hard to edit out Air in final cut pro.... most likely that is what was done.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:30 am Comment from: GizmoDan

"that's widely expected to be unveiled (anticlimactically) by Apple CEO Steve Jobs next Tuesday"

How is it anticlimactic? We still have no idea what the major product transition is . . .

This article is a 'hit whore'.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:34 am Comment from: souch3

Definitely a Macbook Air, without a doubt

Oct 10, 08 - 10:40 am Comment from: cogitoergomac

Well, the video certainly qualifies as anticlimactic, and if this is all we see on Tuesday, then that could qualify as well. Looking for a reason to upgrade my MBP 2.16, and so far, I haven't heard or seen anything that sounds like a possible candidate.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:53 am Comment from: MacintoshSoftwareList.com

LOL, FAKE!!!

Oct 10, 08 - 10:54 am Comment from: JRA

Regardless of the video... count me in as not be happy about Aluminum Mac Books. Frankly, I like a significant differentiation between the Mac Book and Mac Book Pro (physically). Now there will be a bunch of posers out there wink

Oct 10, 08 - 10:56 am Comment from: alansky

Ditto: Lame video, worthless article.

Oct 10, 08 - 10:57 am Comment from: woggy

Settle down everyone, it's just a MacBook Air!

Oct 10, 08 - 11:01 am Comment from: TheConfuzed1

No JRA, the powers all have Dells, Acers, etc.

Oct 10, 08 - 11:01 am Comment from: just saying

The other thing that is questionable is that the laptop in the video has very rounded corners but the one in the email invite doesn't. The hinged edge also makes it look like the thickness tapers, unlike the Aluminum case photos we have seen.

Oct 10, 08 - 11:31 am Comment from: bioness

nah.... too obvious....

we're only seeing incremental change....

I think it's going to look like the iPod nano... I'm just putting it out there!!! It's really just a guess

Oct 10, 08 - 11:36 am Comment from: Chris

Unnecessary ZOOM!

Oct 10, 08 - 11:54 am Comment from: pissed

If I ever meet the guy who did that joke of a video, I will punch him in the face.

Why not show the keyboard if it is the real thing. Lame.

Oct 10, 08 - 11:59 am Comment from: msr

God, what an annoying song. Could it be any cheesier?

Oct 10, 08 - 12:12 pm Comment from: Felix

crap crap crap, I already know what a MacBook Air looks like

Oct 10, 08 - 12:15 pm Comment from: Jeremy

It's already gone. Anyone want to post it somewhere else from the browser cache so the rest of us can talk about how crappy it is?

Oct 10, 08 - 12:27 pm Comment from: stucktrader

why is everyone so impatient. check out the stock tho. hype on news is boasting the stock. while most other tech stocks sink... Apple is techs/Nasdaqs hope.

Oct 10, 08 - 12:29 pm Comment from: tuck

this is just a macbook air with a macbook stamp and a sheet of paper over the keys. what a horrible rumor vid.

Oct 10, 08 - 12:31 pm Comment from: Marc G

I want to know what that metal thing that looks like some kind of grill was. Seemed like it was still wrapped in styro type wrapping. Perhaps that was the brick?

Oct 10, 08 - 01:05 pm Comment from: Joe

It's a MacBook with it's lower half hidden in a white cardboard box.
It is just sitting on a MacBook Air

FAKE

Oct 10, 08 - 01:49 pm Comment from: Think

MDN- Please don't waste our time with crap videos like this.

Oct 10, 08 - 02:09 pm Comment from: Macintosher

Hmmm. I call prototype. When I first saw it, I thought "MacBook Air" instantly. BUT... the word MacBook is in the centre of the bottom bezel, the screen is WXVGA high-gloss (unlike the current ones) and grill shown was a component half out of the packaging. The video was taken by a man in a white shirt who had the same shoulder width as the man who took the rumored photo of the MacBook Pro with the black bezel. And the white object below was not a MacBook as it had no finger catch or indent where there should've been one, and it was tapered. This is a poor-quality video shot from a video headset like the extreme action headsets for mountain bikes (etc.) - these things lead me to believe this was genuine but isn't any more - a prototype.

Oct 10, 08 - 02:27 pm Comment from: Jeremy

The grill bit you see briefly on the one side looks *exactly* like the bottom of the MacBook Air. So if a MacBook Air was in fact disassembled for this video that would make sense. Also the fit and finish is really atrocious on the sides/corners, far worse than anything Apple would let out of the factory. So this has to be either a prototype, or a fake made out of various bits of MacBook Air.

That being said, it's a fair assumption that the new MacBooks will take cues from the MacBook Air as they are already distinguished from the Pros by virtue of their more rounded shape. So whatever they end up being, it's likely that they will, when opened, look very similar to this MacBook Air looking thing anyway, albeit perhaps with a glass screen with the black border a la iPhone, iMac etc.

Oct 10, 08 - 03:28 pm Comment from: Karl

I just bought a new macbook about a month ago and I got a free ipod touch with it, I love my macbook but I hope they don't come out with a new one anytime soon. also, my ipod keeps coming to this white blank screen and I have to hold down the top button and it restarts do you think if I take it to the apple store they'll do somethning?

Oct 10, 08 - 05:36 pm Comment from: Ed

Video has been reposted on youtube

bezel is too big, and its not revolutionary looking...

its not it

the new one will be macbookair esc.. and who knows if we will see the multitouch screen implemented... Apple needs to stop being afraid of taking market share away from itself and release MORE SHIT!

we want to touch the screen.. and you can keep the keyboard.. 8.9" display sounds just fine thanks!

enjoy your AIDS!

Oct 12, 08 - 10:14 am Comment from: Mister Snitch

So it looks like the new MacBook Pro is ALL black. They should not have showed it in such a dark room, especially during a power outage and total eclipse.
