The Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg fields a question that we hope is becoming more and more common these days.
“I am considering moving from a Dell laptop with Windows XP to an Apple laptop running the Mac OS X operating system. Is there a way to easily transfer to the Apple, via cables, the files and settings I have stored on the Dell? And is there a book about switching to the Mac from Windows?”
Mossberg responds, “Yes. There’s a transfer product called Move2Mac that’s made for just this purpose. It’s from Detto, and moves your files and settings from a Windows machine to an Apple Macintosh. hi, Use an ethernet cross cable and u can transfer that way or burn your files on a CD burner and go that route.

All of a sudden preching mac is no longer the undertaking of a fanatic but rather the dito of a pragmatic. These are amazing and lovely times. Someone pinch me. Is there a wave of sanity flooding the world?

I have a friend that wanted to get a laptop. After going over all the crap PC options I ask him to consider a Mac. He told me he didn’t like Mac and that he hated it. When I ask him what he didn’t like about it he told me he used a friends Mac and didn’t like it; it was too slow. I asked what color the mac was and he said beige. I then told him to enjoy his new PC.

And don’t give out endless free advice to those that won’t even go to atleast a few Mac sites. Do people rely exclusively on their friend’s advice as to which car to buy?
And don’t give free tech support forever because you hear this, ‘well, you made me buy this fscking computer’. Insist that they attempt to do some things on their own, or get Bill to help them with their new WinPC
