#11) "Thou shalt not have to be pissed at thine phone."

It's things like these that make people think Apple is some sort of cult, and Apple has nothing to do with this. Maybe the fanaticism of some of the users goes a little far, but all this does is cement that idea in people's minds and I think it's a tad unjustified.

Jun 24, 07 - 10:35 am Comment from: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali

The iPhone is not a some sort God machine, Ultimate Artifact, or a spontaneous fulfillment of all human potential. But I think it gives you an idea of what such a device might look like.

"It's things like these that make people think Apple is some sort of cult, and Apple has nothing to do with this. "

Exactly. Apple makes a few announcements and has a couple of ads and the press goes berserk. For the past 6 months, commentators, reviewers, blogs have talked about the iPhone and it hasn't even been released. Who is creating this hype? I don't think it was all created by Apple or Jobs.

Come to Asia quick, maybe with 3G.

Jun 24, 07 - 10:43 am Comment from: TechGuru

Apple iPhone has eaten away my mind for the paqst 6 months. I can't wait to lay my hand on it. It's an amazing product, considering how much the best companies have failed to produce such a convergence product. Kudos to Steve's brains. You got to appreciate brain power and let the consumers do the rest. Hat's off Steve!!!

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

The iPhones in that cartoon have 12 icons on the screen... hmmmmmm. Wonder what the cartoonist knows that we don't.

Jun 24, 07 - 11:10 am Comment from: Big Al

Oh come on!

This is classic editorial comic satire.

The pundits have been saying the iPhone is the greatest invention since sliced bread or they have been paid, by the people who have the most to lose with this cell phone sea change, to say the exact opposite.

Steve descending from the mount with the iTablets is hilarious. All that's missing is the burning bush.

Let there be iLife.

If you have to grab the life preserver of certainty, this is a better belief system than the formative years Pablum shoveled to so many of us.

One step closer to immortality through extra-somatic memory.

Jun 24, 07 - 11:16 am Comment from: steve

But the thing is, it is clever, there's more than a grain of truth in it, and it is funny.

Jun 24, 07 - 11:26 am Comment from: No Squirt For You

Steve doesn't need a name tag.

On his way up the mountain, Jobs spent an hour listening to a chatty burning bush before he realized it was just a coked up Lindsay Lohan spread out on a big rock.

Jun 24, 07 - 11:57 am Comment from: The Other Steve

Okay, now THAT is hype!

(but again, it's not Apple's hype but everyone's else's hype)

Jun 24, 07 - 01:10 pm Comment from: Cubert

Glad that Apple added that 12th icon - 11 was just bugging the shit out of me! You know it was Steve and Jonny, too.

Jun 24, 07 - 01:14 pm Comment from: Cubert

Superman vs. Muhammad Ali,
A couple of decades ago, Ali could have put up a good fight, but right now, I KNOW Superman would win. Even if Muhammad Ali had kryptonite, he couldn't get it out of his pocket fast enough.

Jun 24, 07 - 01:15 pm Comment from: Cubert

Ahhhh, Twisted Mac Freak, that joke is so right up my alley.

Jun 24, 07 - 01:33 pm Comment from: Spark

I thought the iPhone was smaller than that. Not sure it will fit in my pocket now. wink

this is wrong on so many levels I don't even want to get started

That will be George W. if he doesn't manage to get his hands on one this Friday.

Let there be iLife.

Not until Leopard, then they'll release it cross platform. Finally iPhoto for the PC!

Jun 24, 07 - 04:45 pm Comment from: MizuInAus

I think what pizzes me off more than anything is that His Jobsliness gets two of the phones!!! We only got one each here in RD&D;. Hmmm... sometimes life just isn't fair - indeed!

My question is how do all of those superheros get into a phone booth if they all need to change into their tights at the same time... and just what is the pecking order? - indeed!

I think it would be best to turn off my iPhone and not take anymore calls until after the 29th. At least I could get some work done. - indeed!

We all konw that the 29th will indeed be a moment in technological history - no matter how good or bad the iPhone really is. - indeed!

Jun 24, 07 - 04:46 pm Comment from: Ballmer

Never heard of it..

they don't make the hype, they make the product. the reason the press treats the product like the second coming is because the OTHER products (windows, zune, razr) are such total crap.

that is the secret.

some day people will realize Apples is indeed part of a cult. we cult it the cult of people who want stuff that isn't total shit.....

MW: in my list of crap products i forgot "office"

Jun 24, 07 - 09:59 pm Comment from: Big Al

The whole civilized world has watched Steve's iPhone Keynote.

Who would have thought the RDF created that day could produce 10,000 articles about the iPhone before it would be released or given to reviewers.

Billions of dollars of free publicity.

If Apple spends much money on advertising the iPhone there will be a shareholder revolt.

Jun 24, 07 - 10:45 pm Comment from: WW3

Not funny.

Not sure of this is furthering the "Apple User Cult" notion, or just inviting bad karma.

Why aren't Jews and Christians in arms over this? If a cartoon depicted Jobs as Mohammed instead, there'd be wild-eyed outrage and worldwide riots.

(shaking head...)

Jun 24, 07 - 11:07 pm Comment from: Doc4i

Stupid. Why does everyone care so much about this tremendously overpriced phone that's draining apple resources from more important things?

Jun 25, 07 - 08:37 am Comment from: Drunk Cheney

Just goes to show how pathetic phones have been and how ready people are to replace them for something that was built by someone with a brain.

Hooray for Apple. More creative power to them. Keep the imagination alive.

Jun 25, 07 - 10:53 am Comment from: smackman

I just have to interject here in response to a few posts up “It's things like these that make people think Apple is some sort of cult,…”

I know that as a mac fan, we don’t help our cause and image by being fanatical. However, like I have said many times on our smackdown show (pcmacsmackdown.com by the way) there is a HUGE REASON why we are that way.

It is not the marketing, not the “cult” status (God I hate that term), nor is it because of our attitudes. It is because Apple makes products focused around the people who matter….US…the consumer. Other companies strive to do this to an extent but at some point their designs end up decided upon from a committee and other corporate pressures.

Bottom line from me is this: You don’t have to like the iPhone, or the Mac, or OSX, to each their own. But stop bashing us Mac people because of our Zealotry. Instead, I invite you to find out why it is we are the way we are.

And to us Mac people….calm the hell down already. We are not making it easier on us.

That is all…end of line. 

Jun 25, 07 - 11:06 am Comment from: No Squirt For You

"Why does everyone care so much about this tremendously overpriced phone . . ."

Get some perspective. Some of us can afford it and see its value.
Stupid for you? That's your call. Pun intended.
