One application that I would love. Something that would track mileage on the iphone since i drive a lot to see clients. It's hassle adding up all those freakin' miles, that is if I remember to do it at all!

Dummest insight ever! The mac doesn't run on anybody's network. Nor does Windsox for that matter. As a matter of fact, they don't require on in order operate. You have to think of security and the time and effort and cost it takes to manage the relationship with the partners you are working with...

Otherwise, let the developers build their own distribution model and pay for it. This route allows for smaller developers to get into the game. They only pay when they sell. Like you don't have to pay sales tax if you don't sell anything. Same deal.

Biggest touché evah! I was talking about the security of AT&T;'s network, not the Mac.

Look if I spend millions building something that everyone can use to make money, why should i hand it out for free? I want to recoup the money I spent. Handing out things for free does not a good biz move make, especially when you've spent money creating it. And now you want me to give it away for free so other people can make money? Software on the mac doesn't arrive their for free. You want to know how much an ADC membership costs? That's right, it ain't free bucko!

Also, the reason you don't have to think about security is because Apple spends time and money making sure you don't have to. And it should be paid for that! Case closed!

I'm not going to get an iPhone, so I guess it doesn't matter to me, but I think Apple is becoming to greedy. Look at the ringtones. Pay for a 30 second ringtone. I wont but an iPhone on principal. The LG KF600 looks good.

A real SDK and free cases of Jolt. The developers know how to take it from there.

Just my $0.02

I just know some idiot is gonna scream for VMWare to run on the iphone so he can run Windows Mobile on it.

Can't help yourself can you? Basic principal of any business is greed. Profit or die. Let me know when LG agrees to send you a free KF600, oh, gimme a shout when Verizon is handing out free licensed ring tones. The ring tone industry was a multi-billion dollar industry before Apple jumped in, that doesn't spell free to me.
