The story seems to imply that this is to help Apple with its China marketing, because PCs are sold in China very much in the way that cosmetics are sold in the US: an area of the store is divided into individual stalls for different brands. Avon was one of the first highly successful American companies to take off locally in China. Hopefully the Mac will become just as successful in China as it's dominant market share in Japan. Avon had sales of 8.1 billion in 2005. Not to shabby.
