Wired removes Mac OS X netbook hacking tutorial after Apple legal threat
Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 05:57 PM EST

"Remember the video that Wired posted on how to hack a Netbook to run OS X? Well Apple legal sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wired demanding that it be removed," Jason D. O'Grady blogs for ZDNet.

"ZDNet’s Andrew Nusca spoke with Evan Hansen, editor-in-chief at Wired.com who said that the video was removed and the posts are 'under review,'" O'Grady reports.

More info, links, and the video are the full article here.

They're not done yet. If the same video pops up anywhere on the web, it is now Wired's responsiblity to have it removed, in perpetuity. Otherwise, any monetary damages resulting from such video (and that could be HUGE) will fall squarely on Wired and the fool that posted the video.

There are entire forums devoted to getting OSX running on nonapple hardware.

Taking this video down isn't going to accomplish anything in the grand scheme of things.

A more permanent solution is needed.

Apple needs to find a way to make it harder to run OSX on nonapple hardware.

I smell an Apple-branded netbook in the near term....

Heads at Wired need to roll. Condé Nast Publications should clean house at Wired and get some writers and editors with some ethics.

OS X on a cheaper Windows laptop; that's what every Windows user has wanted for years. They love being able to say, that you don't need to spend so much money to enjoy using a Mac. Well, it's sort of what we Mac users have been saying about running Windows on Boot Camp, right?

It looks like a very convoluted way of getting OS X, but then, if you've used Windows for any amount of time, they're pretty accustomed to doing all kinds of weird gyrations to get what they want from their computer. This may not seem very complicated.

Now whether it really works with any Mac software....

Does anyone know where to find this video now? I was planning to purchase a Win or HP netbook specifically for this purpose... along with a legit copy of OSX. Please tell us if you know where the video is posted. Thanks.
