I heard it when it aired and was actually a bit surprised how excited Pogue was about Vista. Although, he did drop OS X references whenever he could. As did the interviewer.

I wonder if Short- uuhhh Long --- ehhh ... vista
could generate as much excitement as the "One More Thing"
coming this Wednesday ??

I am sure that Vista will create a buzz. Windows users are yearning for something better than what they have. When it is finally released, they will all sing its praises.

Mac users can sit back and yawn.

NPR is a crypto-corporate/government subsidiary of Arthur Daniels Midland and Monsanto. Of course they don't use Quicktime. Apple is a bunch of pinkos.

Isn't it weird that NPR does podcasts, is featured in iTunes, but doesn't support AT on their website?!?!?!

Pogue sounded excited about Vista in general. I think what we have here is a computer enthusiast that would like to encourage all improvements. Windows is prettier and has security improvements. These are good things. The only real bad part is that it's going to make people hestitate again and put-off buying a Mac.

I really hope that Apple makes running Windows programs on a Mactel very easy. It really is annoying to have to run two OSes to get my work done, but I refuse to have that all-in-one OS be based on Windows and controlled by Microsoft.

Let's see. Leopard (a.k.a. Mac OS 10.5)possibly released in June 2006 (maybe earlier), while Microsoft Vista is possibly released in December 2006 of the same year. Hmmm. That gives Redmond at least six more months to incorporate some of the features of Leopard into Vista, no?

If pot-bellied Steve B of Redmond decides there are features of Leopard worth adding to Vista, you can add another two years to Vista's launch.

Monopolists are undeniably sloooooow! They let users simmer on their own fat before pulling them out of their miseries.

I would have thought that Apple will not want to release Leopard too soon and a) give M$ the chance to copy (debatable that they could post beta stage) and b) waste the chance of spoiling Vista's release as much as possible by releasing at pretty much the same time.

This is a tactic that M$ used around the launch of Tiger, I noticed. A BBC tech magazine program - in the very same episode - spent a couple of minutes talking about Tiger and an equal or greater time making us listen to some M$ exec talk about the 'upcoming' OS (can't even remember if it was Longhorn at that stage).
